City, University of London was founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute, it became the City University in 1996 but it received its current name - City, University of London, in 2016. The university is located in the heart of London, specifically in the Clerkenwell area of Islington. The Complete University Guide 2023 ranked City, University of London as the 40th best university in the UK.
City, University of London is closely linked to the City of London, and its rector is the Lord Mayor of London.
For six decades, City has been a pioneer in computer science in the UK, playing a crucial role in establishing the British Computer Society and granting some of the nation's earliest Computer Science degrees.
