Overview
ETH Zürich was founded in 1854 by the Swiss Confederation as a response to the need for education in engineering and natural sciences. ETH Zürich is part of a network of Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology that also includes EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) in Lausanne. These institutes are renowned for their high-quality education and research.
ETH Zürich's Computer Science Department is one of the most prominent departments in the field globally. ETH Zurich has some notable alumni in Computing, including Guido van Rossum, who is the creator of the Python programming language.
