Massachusetts Institute of Technology, founded in 1861 was initially a response to the rapid industrialization taking place in the US at that time. The campus is situated on the north bank of the Charles River, across from downtown Boston. MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) roots back to the MIT School of Electrical Engineering in 1882, which makes it one of the earliest electrical engineering schools in the United States. EECS has produced some notable alumni, for example, Amar Bose - Founder of Bose Corporation, a renowned audio technology company known for its high-quality speakers and sound systems.
