Best antivirus with VPN bundles for 2025

Antivirus software and VPNs are both essential tools for online security. Antivirus programs keep your device secure by running regular scans and removing malware. Meanwhile, VPNs encrypt your internet traffic to maintain privacy and anonymity.

Installing separate software for both can be inconvenient which is why many top providers now offer bundled solutions. These combos allow you to have only one subscription and app for both purposes. However, not all bundles provide equal protection, as some may fall short in either antivirus or VPN performance.

After extensive in-house tests of antivirus and VPN bundles available, we found that the Surfshark One antivirus and VPN package is the best in terms of performance and price. You can get it for as low as $2.49/month. However, I encourage you to explore our full list of antivirus with VPN options for other great alternatives.

Why choose an antivirus and VPN combo?

According to AV-Test Institute’s Malware Statistics, over 70% of modern attacks originate from malicious or compromised websites, not just file-based malware. This means that relying solely on antivirus software won’t protect you from all threats.

While antivirus is crucial for detecting known malware, it can’t safeguard your real-time connections from interception or spying. A VPN, on the other hand, encrypts your connection and protects you while browsing online. So, using an antivirus and VPN combination offers more than just convenience – it provides cohesive protection and reduces system strain.

Best antivirus with VPN bundles in 2025

To help you choose the best antivirus and VPN bundle, I evaluated more than 10 packages and picked only 5 that offered the best features, pricing, and overall performance. In our in-house tests, we focused on providers that deliver high-quality protection, as well as maintain performance and reliability in both antivirus and VPN services.

The antivirus provides full and quick scan options, and with the option to schedule scans. It also offers great additional features like Alternative ID for data protection and Surfshark Search, which shows truly organic, tracker-free results. Best of all, Surfshark One is highly affordable, starting at just $29.88/year, offering excellent value for such a feature-packed package.

My testing of Surfshark Antivirus

Surfshark Antivirus offers real-time protection that continuously monitors your device for potential threats. It showed strong performance during our in-house tests, catching 90% of malicious files. However, I was disappointed that it doesn’t have a firewall, an important security feature.

That said, the antivirus has exceptional malware detection rates, which helped it earn the prestigious Top Product designation from AV-TEST. Surfshark’s mobile app also delivers a secure browsing experience, allowing you to easily connect to a VPN and run scans whenever needed. Plus, it claims that its database is updated every 3 hours, which made me feel protected even from the latest types of threats.

My experience with Surfshark VPN

Surfshark is considered one of the best VPNs on the market. It offers 3200+ servers in 100 countries and delivers fast speeds with the WireGuard protocol. Plus, there are no data caps, so you can stream, play games, or torrent as much as you want.

In terms of security features, Surfshark offers a kill switch, MultiHop, and Camouflage mode to boost privacy. Plus, it uses RAM-only servers, meaning your data isn’t stored long-term. TotalAV is one of the best antivirus software in the market, providing robust protection against malware and viruses. The VPN is a nice addition that provides basic VPN capabilities. This combo works great together and provides cohesive protection.

TotalAV and TotalVPN interface
VPN integrated in the TotalAV app

TotalAV showed great results in our review of TotalAV. It showed excellent malware detection rates and multiple scan options, making it one of the best on the market.

The VPN is conveniently integrated in the TotalAV app, and is easy to use across platforms. Features like the Total WebShield provide extra security by blocking malicious websites. Best of all, the package is highly affordable, starting at just $39.00/year.

My testing of TotalAV antivirus

I found that TotalAV is very user friendly. Its dashboard displays all the essential information regarding your device’s security. I also appreciated the variety of scan options it offers, including Smart, Quick, Custom, and Full scans.

TotalAV interface mac

During our in-house tests, TotalAV showed great results, detecting 103 out of 150 malware samples. During the ransomware test, it managed to detect 9 out of 10 malware samples during the quick scan, and 10 out of 10 samples during the full scan. As for independent lab tests, TotalAV received an Advanced Malware Protection award from AV-Comparatives and a perfect rating in the AV-TEST examination. It uses Avira’s technology for much of its antivirus suite, including on-demand and real-time detection, anti-phishing, and a range of system optimization tools.

My experience with TotalVPN

TotalVPN is a great addition to the TotalAV package and is based on Windscribe’s VPN technology. What I like about this VPN is that it offers unlimited data, OpenVPN and IKEv2 tunneling protocols, and a kill switch to protect your data in case your VPN connection drops.

TotalVPN interface mac

While the speeds can be sometimes inconsistent, TotalVPN retains on average 70%% of the initial connection speeds. It’s important to note that TotalVPN offers 1800+ servers in 80 countries, which isn’t sustainable for streaming or torrenting. I believe this VPN is more suitable for those looking for basic features. We covered its offerings in further detail in our TotalVPN review.

3. Norton 360 – reliable combination of antivirus and VPN

Norton Antivirus Banner new

Norton 360 is another top choice for an antivirus with a VPN bundle. It combines both strong antivirus protection and a robust VPN in one package. I believe the Norton 360 plan stands true to its name and provides well-rounded protection in both antivirus and VPN.

I found that the Norton Antivirus and VPN package comes with many features and scan options, which takes time to learn how to use. That said, once you get used to it, you’ll unlock excellent security features, including system optimization tools and the Safe Web browser extension, which protects you from visiting dangerous websites. However, Norton 360 is priced higher than the TotalAV combo, starting at $39.99/year for three devices.

My testing of Norton 360

Norton 360 offers a feature-rich app and shows excellent performance. It stands out from the competition with its 100% Virus Protection Promise. However, one thing I did notice when reviewing Norton Antivirus was that its impact on device performance was higher than the industry average.

norton 360 antivirus

In our in-house tests, Norton 360 performed exceptionally well, detecting all 10 out of 10 planted malware samples during the full scan. It also received a Standard Malware Protection award from AV-Comparatives and a perfect rating in AV-TEST evaluations. According to independent testing labs, this antivirus catches 99.8% of zero-day malware with no false positives.

My experience with Norton VPN

Norton VPN is a solid option, offering many features found in top VPNs. It has over 2000 servers across 30 countries, which may not seem like a lot, but is enough to unblock popular streaming platforms like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube TV. It also supports multiple tunneling protocols, including OpenVPN, IKEv2, WireGuard, and Mimic.

4. Bitdefender – premium antivirus with an integrated VPN

Bitdefender interface newest
VPN data cap:200MB daily
Max devices:

Apps:Windows, macOS, Android, iOS

Bitdefender is a well-known antivirus provider that also offers a reliable VPN, making it a solid combo for those seeking all-around protection. While Bitdefender VPN is slightly behind Norton VPN in terms of features, it still provides good security with a wide range of servers. Bitdefender’s antivirus, on the other hand, is among the best, offering top-tier malware protection and useful security features.

bitdefender antivirus and vpn

In our Bitdefender review, it showed excellent results both in-house and independent tests. Notable features include microphone and webcam protection to prevent unauthorized access and web protection to guard against malicious websites and scams. When it comes to pricing, you’ll need to purchase it as an add-on if you want unlimited VPN data. The add-on costs $34.99/year for one device. This makes it a pricier option, considering it would only cover one device.

My testing of Bitdefender

I found Bitdefender's antivirus interface to be very user-friendly. It’s intuitive and all features neatly organized for easy access. The antivirus offers multiple scanning options, including Full, Quick, Vulnerability, and Custom scans.

bitdefender antivirus mac

In our in-house tests, Bitdefender delivered solid results, achieving a 97.5% malware detection rate. Its phishing protection also performed well, with a 95% success rate. According to independent tests, Bitdefender earned the prestigious Advanced+ Malware Protection award from AV-Comparatives and showed perfect protection rates in AV-TEST evaluations.

My experience with Bitdefender VPN

My experience with Bitdefender VPN was mixed. While it’s included in the antivirus plans, the 200MB/day limit is unsustainable for those looking to protect their browsing on a daily basis. Despite some confusion around the plan options, the VPN itself is solid. It has decent global coverage, with over 3000 servers in 100 countries. However, even with this amount of servers, it struggles to unblock most streaming services except BBC iPlayer, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re into streaming.

In terms of performance, Bitdefender VPN offers good speeds, retaining 83% of the download speed. It also includes essential features like split tunneling, auto-connect, and ad blocking. One standout feature is the App Traffic Optimizer, which allows you to prioritize traffic for specific apps. For more on this feature, you can refer to our Bitdefender VPN review.

NordVPN is widely recognized as a market-leading VPN, and its Threat Protection Pro enhances its security offering with anti-malware features. This combination of VPN and anti-malware protection works seamlessly, providing robust security.

The combination is easy to use as both features are available in the NordVPN app. The full Threat Protection Pro suite is available only on macOS and Windows, but mobile users can enjoy a lighter version called Threat Protection. The feature operates in real-time, so there are no manual scans required. Starting at $47.88/year, this combo is definitely on the pricier side, but covers up to 10 devices.

My testing of NordVPN Threat Protection

NordVPN Threat Protection Pro offers 24/7 real-time protection, acting as an ad blocker, anti-tracker, and safeguard against malicious websites. I liked that the dashboard shows a 7-day summary of blocked threats. That said, it doesn't have full antivirus capabilities, such as malware scanning or a firewall. Instead, it serves as a first line of defense against online threats, essentially preventing malware from entering your system.

In our NordVPN Threat Protection Pro review, it excelled at blocking ads and protecting against web tracking. It also earned certifications, including the AV-Comparatives Fake Shop Detection certificate and AV-TEST Network Threat Protection VPN certificate.

My experience with NordVPN

We ranked NordVPN as the best VPN on the market, and not without reason – it works seamlessly and is perfect for daily use. It offers reliable features such as a kill switch, split tunneling, and Smart DNS, which we analyzed in our NordVPN review. Aside from that, NordVPN has more than 7600 servers in 118 countries and its proprietary protocol called NordLynx ensures fast speeds. Moreover, it uses RAM-only servers, meaning your browsing data is erased after each reboot.

NordVPN is an excellent choice for streaming and gaming, as it effortlessly unblocks most services and provides a lag-free experience. Plus, the P2P servers are perfect for safe torrenting.

How we selected these antivirus and VPN bundles

In order to pick the best bundles, I followed our comprehensive VPN testing and antivirus testing methodologies. Here are the main criteria I used when choosing the top solutions:

  1. VPN and antivirus bundles (20%). I identified providers that offer both VPN and antivirus software, subscribed to their plans, and downloaded their apps.
  2. The range of features (25%). I evaluated the range of features on offer. For the antivirus, I looked for essential features like real-time protection, firewalls, and anti-phishing tools. For the VPN, I looked at the number of servers available, tunnelling protocols, kill switches, and checked for any data caps.
  3. Independent tests (25%). To test each antivirus’s ability to detect malware, I checked the latest independent testing results, such as those from AV-Test and AV-Comparatives. We then conducted our own in-house tests by planting malware samples and seeing how many of them would be detected by scans and real-time protection.
  4. VPN’s leak protection (20%). To test each VPN’s leak protection abilities, we conducted IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak tests using the IPLeak website. The efficiency of the kill switch was tested by manually terminating the VPN connection. We also evaluated the VPNs’ speed and ability to bypass geo-restrictions.
  5. Price (10%). Based on the results of our analysis, I compared all bundles side-by-side. I looked at the essential and additional features they offer, their antivirus and VPN performance in independent and in-house tests, pricing, and ease of use to find bundles with the best value for money.

Note that we regularly review products to ensure that this information is up-to-date, relevant, and helpful to users.

Antivirus and VPN – what’s the difference?

Antivirus and VPN services both safeguard your device from online threats, but they concentrate on distinct areas of protection.

Here are the main differences between a VPN and antivirus software:

  • Antivirus software secures your device from malware and malicious code through real-time protection and scanning your device for suspicious activity. Many good antivirus suites also include performance optimization features which help your device run smoother. However, while antivirus programs are excellent at detecting and neutralizing malicious code, they do little to protect your anonymity or prevent online tracking of your personal data or browsing habits.
  • A VPN encrypts your traffic and hides your IP address, keeping your information safe and private. It ensures that your ISP (internet service provider) and the government don’t know what you're doing online – something an antivirus can't do. A VPN also secures your connection to public Wi-Fi. By hiding your IP address, a VPN helps you bypass network restrictions set up by your school or workplace and even access geo-restricted streaming platforms.

Both antivirus softwares and VPNs are essential cybersecurity tools designed to protect your device and privacy. Because they serve different functions, having antivirus software with a VPN is the best way to ensure complete security and protection of your devices and information. With the Surfshark Antivirus bundle, you’ll get a convenient all-in-one cybersecurity package consisting of a VPN, antivirus, and extra privacy tools.

VPN and antivirus: do you need both in 2025?

Whether you need both an antivirus and a VPN will depend on what you use your devices for.

Since an antivirus protects your devices by blocking and removing malware, it’s essential for those who regularly download files online, or deal with sensitive data and are vulnerable to phishing attacks. Additionally, gamers who often download updates and mods for games would also benefit from increased security as well as performance.

On the other hand, a VPN hides your location and identity, which is why it’s important for users who need online privacy and secure connections. These include remote workers and travelers who use public Wi-Fi, such as in cafes and airports, or need to access geo-restricted websites. A VPN can also help you access new game releases early and streaming libraries that are not available in your area. It can even help you save money.

However, whatever your daily activities are, I recommend using both a VPN and an antivirus to ensure well-rounded protection of your devices, identity, and personal data.

How to use antivirus with a VPN

To use antivirus with a VPN, all you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Install an antivirus that has a VPN included. I recommend Surfshark One, now 86% OFF
  2. Open the app and sign in or register an account
  1. Enable the VPN feature and connect to a chosen server
Enable VPN on Surfshark
  1. Now, you have both an antivirus and a VPN enabled
Set up antivirus and VPN on Surfshark

To make sure the VPN is working, look up your IP address online before connecting to the VPN – a simple Google search of "what is my IP" will do the trick. Then, connect to the VPN and check again – you should see a different IP address than before you connected. If the IP is the same as before, that means the VPN is not connected, or there is some other malfunction. In this case, learn more about how to change your location with a VPN.

Is there a free antivirus with included VPN?

Although most antivirus providers that offer a VPN will include it in their more expensive packages, some programs come with a free VPN.

However, VPNs that are included in free antivirus plans tend to be very limited. They usually have very few servers, data caps that allow for limited usage, and very few additional security features. While the free-plan VPNs might do a good job of protecting your online presence and providing the necessary security, paid plans usually mean more freedom.

Luckily, some antivirus providers offer free trials or money-back guarantees. This gives you the opportunity to try out the service before purchasing it and decide if the additional benefits are worth the money.

Surfshark Antivirus offers one of the most comprehensive security suites, including anti-malware protection, an ad blocker, a next-gen VPN, and more, which you can test for a month risk-free.
