Is Surfshark VPN safe?

Yes, Surfshark VPN is safe. Surfshark is packed with excellent security features, making it one of the most secure VPNs available. It offers a range of user privacy and security features – AES-256 and ChaCha20 encryption, a kill switch, and RAM-only servers. On top of that, Surfshark has been independently audited 4 times for the no-logs policy, server infrastructure, and app security, including the Android app. This VPN passed every single audit with flying colors, proving that it is truly o of the most reliable and secure VPN providers on the market right now when compared to others like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

Encryption

Surfshark uses AES-256-GCM encryption with OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols, and ChaCha20 encryption with the WireGuard protocol. These encryption ciphers are an industry standard and generally proved to be secure, reliable, and fast. Additionally, Surfshark secures authentication (the verification of users and devices that are trying to access the VPN network) with SHA-512 encryption, which is of higher grade than the industry standard SHA-256, used by most other VPN providers.

Overall, Surfshark employs the latest encryption and authentication technologies to secure its VPN network and your data. If you’re worried about your information and online activities being exposed or compromised, don’t worry – Surfshark knows how to keep your data safe and secure.

Tunneling protocols

Most VPNs, including Surfshark, offer a variety of tunneling protocols with different use cases in mind:

  • WireGuard was created for speed and security. It is the newest and most advanced tunneling protocol and uses next-gen ChaCha20 encryption. Since Wireguard has better performance and more power than other protocols, it’s best for situations when you need speedy connections coupled with strong security.
  • OpenVPN is the most popular and widely used VPN protocol. It is secure and generally very reliable, but might not be as fast as WireGuard. OpenVPN typically runs over two different protocols: UDP is recommended when you need a little more speed, and TCP will be slower but offers highly reliable and stable connections.
  • IKEv2/IPsec is quite an old tunneling protocol, and most VPN providers are gradually getting rid of it. Surfshark still offers it, and the protocol is believed to be good for use on mobile devices when you switch from mobile data to wifi and vice versa.

Tunneling protocols are communication protocols, also known as tunnels, to transfer data from one server to another – to move it across various networks. VPNs use encrypted tunnels to send data privately over public networks. This means that when your data is sent over a private encrypted tunnel, no one on the public network will be able to access it.

Privacy policy

Surfshark is a no-logs VPN, which means that it doesn’t log and store any information that relates to you as the user of the service. Surfshark’s privacy policy explicitly states:

“We do not collect any information about what you do online (your visited IP addresses, browsing history, session information, used bandwidth, connection time stamps, network traffic or any other similar information).”

Additionally, the VPN is based in the Netherlands, which, despite being a country in the 9 Eyes alliance, does not require services like Surfshark to store or report any information.

The only data that might be collected about you is related to Surfshark’s servers, which includes your user ID and/or your IP address. However, as Surfshark’s privacy policy states, “This information is automatically deleted within 15 minutes after the termination of your session,” which means that once you disconnect from a VPN server, Surfshark gets rid of any information related to that particular connection.

Additionally, all of Surfshark’s servers are RAM-only. When a VPN server is RAM-only, it means that any data stored on it gets removed every time a server is restarted or disconnected. This makes it impossible to steal or leak any information since it’s never kept permanently on a server.

Therefore, Surfshark is a reliable and true no-logs VPN. You can use it securely without worrying about your data being collected, sold, and otherwise used without your consent.

Security audits

Surfshark has passed 4 security audits in total: November 2018, January 2023, May 2023, and December 2023. The first audit evaluated the overall security of Surfshark application, the second confirmed compliance with the no-logs policy, the third looked into Surfshark’s server infrastructure and browser extensions, and the fourth one was a Mobile App Security Assessment (MASA) for the Android application.

The November 2018 audit was conducted by the Cure35 security testing service and was the first Surfshark audit ever. Cure35 testing team looked into Surfshark applications and concluded that there are no major issues concerning the privacy and security of Surfshark apps.

In January 2023, the no-logs audit was conducted by the Delloite consulting firm. The results of the audit found that Surfshark’s IT systems and management are in line with its no-logs policy.

In May 2023, Cure35 tested Surfshark’s server infrastructure. Overall, the infrastructure was deemed secure and suitable for carrying out Surfshark’s operations and services. The audit found a few flaws and evaluated each fix to be appropriate.

In December 2023, Surfshark’s Android app underwent and passed an independent Mobile App Security Assessment. The assessment evaluated such criteria as authentication, sensitive data handling, session management, overall security measures, and code quality.

Surfshark VPN video review

Watch the newest December 2023 Surfshark VPN video review – everything you need to know about Surfshark in under 8 minutes. The review includes the newest performance test results on torrenting and streaming with Surfshark, ease of use and interface evaluation, and a pricing and features overview.

Surfshark VPN performance tests

The Cybernews research team tested Surfshark’s performance in several areas. We ran tests for the kill switch, DNS and WebRTC leaks, simultaneous connections, speed, streaming, torrenting, and customer support.

TestResults
Kill switchWorks perfectly, no leaks
DNS leakNo leaks
WebRTC leakNo leaks
Simultaneous connectionsWorks perfectly on each connected device
Speed90% avg. speed retention rate
Netflix (streaming)Works on Netflix and other platforms
TorrentingWorks with all torrenting platforms
Customer supportPrompt and clear responses. 24/7 live chat.

Kill switch performance

Surfshark has a kill switch, which is a security measure for preventing any data from leaking in case you lose a secure VPN connection. In such scenarios, a kill switch will shut off your device’s access to the internet and thus prevent information from leaking. Surfshark offers two types of a kill switch. A strict kill switch prevents all access to the internet unless you’re connected to a VPN server. A soft kill switch allows access to the internet regardless of whether you’re connected but triggers once an interruption to the secure connection occurs.

Surfshark kill switch in the Settings section

The Cybernews research team tested Surfshark’s kill switch by enabling it on the Windows application and then manually disconnecting from the secure VPN connection. Then, we checked whether the devices had access to the internet and whether there were any data leaks.

The test results were positive – Surfshark successfully blocked our device’s access to the internet, and we saw no data leaks. Thus, Surfshark’s kill switch feature is a functional and reliable security measure against data leaks. Nevertheless, it could be improved: we didn’t get any notification that the kill switch shut down our access to the internet. This lack of notifications could be confusing and might make it seem like you have general internet connection problems.

DNS leaks test

DNS leak protection is a crucial feature for any VPN to have. A DNS leak could expose your private information such as browsing activities, IP address, location, and more to your internet service provider (ISP), third parties, and threat actors who might be monitoring your network. Having this information exposed could lead to unfortunate events such as malware attacks and more. Therefore, the Cybernews research team tested whether Surfshark’s DNS leak protection works.

To test DNS leaks, we enable DNS leak protection and use the ipleak.net site to test whether the VPN is leaking any information. Our testing results show that Surfshark’s DNS leak protection works as it is supposed to – no leaks were detected.

WebRTC leaks test

Similarly to DNS leaks, WebRTC leaks can expose valuable personal information such as IP addresses, DNS requests, and geo-location. This information can then be used by third parties, ISPs, and threat actors to track your online activities. For this reason, our research team tested if Surfshark protects from WebRTC leaks.

We did so while Surfshark VPN was enabled to be 100% confident that no information was slipping through. Once again, Surfshark delivered excellent results during our thorough tests, allowing us to confidently state that Surfshark is one of the most secure VPN services available.

Simultaneous connections

Surfshark offers unlimited simultaneous connections, which means that you can use the VPN on an unlimited number of devices at the same time. We tested this option to see if it works, and whether there were any issues.

We connected to Surfshark VPN servers on 5 different devices at the same time and tested streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube, as well as conducted regular browsing activities. We observed no issues at all. The connection speeds remained consistent, and there were no VPN or internet connection interruptions.

Speed test

We tested Surfshark’s speed from our testing location in Vilnius, Lithuania. We used WireGuard, the fastest available protocol, and tested how fast Surfshark is in three different locations across the globe:

Data period: 02.16 - 03.01
Download retention
Upload retention
Canada Canada
86% (429 Mbit/s) 80 % (398 Mbit/s)
United Kingdom United Kingdom
94% (470 Mbit/s) 82 % (408 Mbit/s)
US (NY) US (NY)
90% (448 Mbit/s) 83 % (417 Mbit/s)
Download/Upload baseline speed - 500 Mbit/s

Overall, Surfshark demonstrates an excellent average 86% original speed retention rate. This is on the level of the fastest VPNs out there, including NordVPN and ExpressVPN.

Streaming with Surfshark VPN

Surfshark is #2 on our best VPN for streaming list. We tested Surfshark with the most popular streaming services to see if the VPN is capable of unblocking geo-restricted shows and platforms. Our testing process is simple: we connect to a Surfshark server in a location where the streaming service or content library is available and check whether we can access the content. We also evaluate the streaming video quality, as well as note down any lag instances.

The overall experience of streaming with Surfshark was mostly positive. It managed to unblock virtually any streaming service we tested, and we could access content from all over the world on different platforms. Surfshark’s high-speed protocols ensured a lag-free streaming experience.

Here’s how Surfshark performed with different streaming platforms:

Streaming platformDoes it work?
Netflix
Amazon Prime Video
Max, Discovery+
YouTube, YouTube TV
Paramount+
Apple TV+

Can Surfshark unblock Netflix?

We tested Surfshark with Netflix, one of the most popular streaming services, in several server locations. We checked whether Surfshark can unblock location-specific content in countries such as the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany, and the UK. We are pleased to report that Surfshark performed excellently, and we were able to access exclusive shows in every single Netflix library we tested. The watching experience was also smooth – there was no buffering, and the video quality was high.

Is torrenting with Surfshark VPN safe?

Surfhark VPN is #2 on our best VPN for torrenting list, so yes, torrenting with Surfshark is completely safe. Besides, all of Surfshark’s servers are fully optimized for P2P downloads, which means that you should have no trouble torrenting with this VPN.

surfshark-servers-torrenting

We tested Surfshark on several different torrenting platforms: uTorrent, BitTorrent, Transmission, Deluge, Torrentz3, and qBittorrent. Every single one worked very well, and we noticed no major reductions in download speed – Surfshark does not have any bandwidth limits or data caps. Additionally, we experienced no IP or DNS leaks, which is also a win.

Overall, Surfshark is a truly great and safe VPN for torrenting.

If you wish to speak to a human person, you can reach agents through a 24/7 live chat. We tested this option. The initial conversation we had was with a chatbot, but it took us just a few seconds to reach a support agent. They were friendly, professional, and really fast at providing answers and solutions to our questions.

Overall, Surfshark generally excels when it comes to customer support.

Surfshark compared to other VPNs

Being one of the best VPN providers overall, Surfshark is ranked #1 in several best VPN categories as the cheapest VPN, the best VPN for bypassing geo-blocks, the best VPN for multiple devices, and the best VPN for India and accessing several location-specific content in the US, Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Ukraine.

Compared to other top-quality VPNs we've tested, Surfshark is among the few that offer unlimited connections, a wide-reaching server network, and affordable prices. Thus, it earns a top spot in our overall ranking.

Surfshark is one of the best VPNs and consistently outperforms other VPN providers in several key areas. For example, it is the cheapest VPN at just $1.99/month and offers servers in 100 countries, outperformed only by ExpressVPN and CyberGhost. Additionally, Surfshark offers unlimited simultaneous connections like IPVanish. Nevertheless, it is also similar to other top providers – it offers a 7-day free trial, and a 30-day money-back guarantee, as well as a strict and independently audited no-logs policy. However, there is still room for improvement – Surfshark is based in the Netherlands, which is part of the 9-Eyes intelligence alliance.

How does Surfshark VPN work?

Once you launch the Surfshark app and log in to your account, you can immediately connect to a VPN server by clicking or tapping on the big blue “quick-connect” button. Surfshark will then connect your device to a random VPN server, and all your internet traffic will be encrypted. The VPN will hide your IP address and provide you with a new one – that way, any third parties like the government, your ISP, or threat actors won’t be able to see what you do online.

If you want to choose a specific location to connect to, you can browse the server country list, either by scrolling or by typing in the country name in the search bar. Some countries, such as the US, also have specific cities that you can connect to. By connecting to specific locations, you will be able to easily access restricted content such as geo-blocked streaming libraries, websites, and more. Besides that, Surfshark also offers numerous customization options: you can choose the tunneling protocol, enable leak protection, and use functions like NoBorders or IP Rotator for extra privacy. You can find all these features under the Features section.

Surfshark VPN is available on a variety of platforms and systems: you can use it on mobile and desktop devices, as well as smart TVs and streaming boxes. The setup for each device is similar, and requires very little technical knowledge – anyone who hasn’t used a VPN before can install and use Surfshark with ease.

Surfshark VPN servers and locations

Surfshark VPN has a server network consisting of 3,200 servers in 100 locations, spread out all over the globe. You can connect to servers in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania countries, as well as locations in Africa and the Middle East. Some server locations are for the whole country, while others include specific cities that you can connect to. To see the full list of Surfshark locations, take a look here.

RegionsNumber of countries
Europe46 countries
Americas18 countries
Asia and Oceania 27 countries
Africa and the Middle East9 countries

While most Surfshark servers are physical, meaning that they physically are in the specified locations, some are also virtual. For example, servers in India have been made into virtual servers after the Indian government implemented a mandatory data collection law for all VPN providers. With virtual instead of physical servers, Surfshark can allow you to connect to India while still complying with their no-logs policy.

Additionally, if you want to use Surfshark in countries with heavy internet restrictions such as China, you will need to use a specific VPN connection configuration for it to work: use the OpenVPN protocol with camouflage mode, as well as the NoBorders feature enabled on Windows and mobile apps.

Surfshark VPN interface

The usability of Surfshark VPN on different apps is great. Both desktop and mobile Surfshark applications look nice and are easy to use. While both Android and iOS versions are virtually identical, the desktop apps have noticeable differences.

During our Surfshark research and testing, we came to these conclusions:

PlatformExperience
WindowsFull Surfshark experience
macOSTwo different app versions with limited features
LinuxModern and user-friendly Surfshark app
MobileSolid apps for iOS and Android
BrowserBrowser extensions for Chrome and Firefox, with cookie blocker functionality
  • Windows version has a straightforward setup and easy to use. Every server has a maker indicating the server load, and every essential feature (except for GPS spoofing) is available.
  • macOS version has a clean interface and is easy to install. Yet, there are no split tunneling and NoBorders features. The Surfshark site version only offers IKEv2 and WireGuard protocols. The App Store version also includes OpenVPN.
  • Linux version has a nice-looking graphical application, which offers everything you would need from a VPN app. You can favorite servers, view recently used servers, and access every essential feature such as the kill switch or MultiHop. It also has WireGuard.
  • Mobile versions are very attractive, easy to use, and ideal for beginners. The Android version also offers a GPS spoofing feature and split tunneling – you can choose which apps are included and/or excluded from the VPN connection. However, the iOS application lacks both the GPS spoofer and split tunneling.
  • Browser versions. Surfshark offers browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers. They include a modified version of CleanWeb for blocking ads, pop-ups, and malware and notifying about data breaches. The browser extensions are intuitive, comprehensive, and easy to use.

Other Surfshark VPN features

Next to the most essential VPN features, Surfshark has much more to offer – more for your online security, privacy, and ease of access to various information. Here are some of the features that make Surfshark one of the best VPNs on the market today:

  • CleanWeb – an ad-blocking feature for safer browsing. When turned on, it will block blacklisted IP addresses.
  • Surfshark Antivirus – a part of Surfshark One security bundle. It will protect your device from all types of malware, including worms, trojans, and viruses.
  • NoBorders – a feature for bypassing heavy restrictions. It is available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
  • Smart DNS – helps unblock streaming content on devices that don’t support VPN apps. Especially useful for PlayStation, Smart TVs, or other smart devices and streaming boxes.
  • Bypasser - a split tunneling feature that lets you choose which apps use the VPN connection, and which don’t. You can do that either by choosing to route certain apps through the VPN or excluding them from the VPN connection.
  • Incogni – personal data removal tool. Incogni will contact online data brokers on your behalf and require them to remove your personal data (such as name, phone number, address, and more) from their databases.
  • Alerts – get real-time alerts on breaches related to your data such as emails, credit cards, and IDs. All you need to do is add them to the monitoring list.
  • GPS Spoofing - allows you to spoof your IP address and your GPS location. You can take advantage of this while playing Pokemon Go or swiping on dating apps.
  • Pause VPN feature - this feature allows you to disable the VPN connection for 5 minutes, half an hour, or 2 hours. You can also easily enable the VPN connection again during the pause.
  • IP rotator - this feature will keep your IP address changing without disconnecting your VPN connection. It is if you want to achieve extra privacy and avoid being tracked.
  • Dedicated IP – you will get a VPN IP address that belongs only to you. It can be beneficial if you need to access private networks related to your work, or if you need a VPN to connect to services that are suspicious of frequent IP changes, such as banking, gambling, and crypto sites.
  • Alternative ID – this feature helps you to create a fake online identity to keep the real one protected. With it, you can securely forward selected emails to your real email address. It is only available with Surfshark One and Surfshark One+ plans. You can also use it as a browser extension on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Recent Surfshark VPN updates

Released in 2018, Surfshark has come a long way to stand as one of the most secure VPNs on the market. Starting as a VPN service with only the most crucial features, it now offers a versatile security bundle that includes not only a VPN but also antivirus and identity protection.

Here are the most recent Surfshark VPN updates from 2023:

  • December 2023: Surfshark’s Android app passed the MASA audit
  • October 2023: Surfshark released their Social Engineering 101 cybersecurity course and improved Alternative ID to support multiple emails.
  • August 2023: Surfshark expands its Dedicated IP locations number and releases a unique Alternative ID feature.
  • June 2023: The Independent Advisor awarded Surfshark as the Best Value VPN – 2023.
  • January 2023: Surfshark passed another no-logs assurance report with auditing firm Deloitte.

Conclusion

All things considered, Surfshark is one of the best VPNs on the market. It shows excellent performance in key areas such as security and privacy, speed, and content unblocking abilities, as well as a user-friendly interface and an excellent selection of additional privacy and security features.

This VPN has successfully passed numerous security, no-logs policy, and infrastructure audits. It uses next-gen ChaCha20 and industry-standard AES-256-GCM encryption to ensure your traffic is secure at all times. Surfshark VPN does not leak your personal information and offers features for extra online security.

Surfshark VPN is also one of the cheapest VPNs out there. For an extremely low subscription price, you get access to the most essential VPN features, and apps for desktop, mobile, and smart devices, as well as unlimited simultaneous connections.

To conclude, the Cybernews expert research team 100% recommends Surfshark VPN for any purpose. No matter what you need a VPN for, Surfshark is sure to deliver only the best.

Hi, I planned use surfshark for bypassing Steam's geo-restriction in order to download some MMORPGs from the platform and conduct gameplay, but I'm worrying about what if Steam detect I'm using a VPN and thus block (or ban )my account on this platform? (Considering there are a bunch of digital copies of paid games inside my account, and I can barely take the risk of been banned permanently -_- )
What's the possibility for been probe by likewise platforms even if I turn on all sorts of obfuscation techniques offered by Surfshark such as Nexus, IP rotater, Noborder?
Is that more like an high-tech arms race between vpn providers and online game publishers?
Cybernews Team
prefix 11 months ago
Hi! Steam doesn't allow you to use a VPN for purposes like buying games at a lower price in different regions or purchasing content unavailable in your original location, so this could be risky, and your account can be permanently banned. It is hard to determine the likelihood of VPN detection by Steam as there is an eternal race between VPNs being able to provide new undetectable servers and features, and various platforms trying to catch it.

Sorry another question are the apps (or have they previously been) audited /open source, Has the no logs policy been tested in court?
Cybernews Team
prefix 1 year ago
The Surfshark apps have not gone through audits yet, only browser extensions and server infrastructure had audits done in 2018 and 2021. And Surfshark's no logs policy is not court proven yet. However, they do have a strict no-logs policy and use RAM-only servers, so they don't keep logs of your data. Hope this helps.

1. Does Surfshark provide dedicated IP's - if so is the registration of the dedicated IP separate from the "normal" VPN registration (ie "tokenised" like cyberghost)?
2. Is there a client or APK for android TV?
Cybernews Team
prefix 1 year ago
Hi, to answer your questions - Surfshark does not offer Dedicated IP yet, only Static IP that you can read about in this review. About APK - it depends on the Android TV, if it has an Android 5.0 then you'll be able to download the Surfshark app from the library on your TV, if it's an older one there is no client. So you would need to setup a VPN on the router, additional hardware (like Amazon FireStick), or use a Windows laptop as a hotspot

Do you have a server in Russia? Does it work for Russia and its people?
Cybernews Team
prefix 1 year ago
Hi! Surfshark doesn't have servers in Russia at the moment, but the VPN services are still working in this country. Surfshark even provides some tips for using a VPN in Russia like using OpenVPN protocol or NoBorders mode. And if you won't have access to the Surfshark website due to some restrictions, you can contact their support ([email protected]) and ask them to send you the manual configuration guide.

Is Surfshark easy to use in China? I've read a few websites that detail a very lengthy process to set it up. Is it really as easy as enabling NoBorders?
Cybernews Team
prefix 1 year ago
Hi!

If you downloaded Surfshark before travelling to China, it'll be just as easy to use as you do at home.

However, if you're already in China, and decided to get Surfshark, the process will be much more complicated. As most VPN websites will be blocked, you will need to use proxies, the Tor browser, and other methods to get around these blocks.

We hope this answers your question.

Ever since I got surfshark, I have been having trouble browsing. Incomplete webpage loads, missing images, blank white pages loading, things taking multiple tries to respond. And google constantly thinks I am a bot and Captchas me. Only when surfshark is on.
To top it off, I experience very noticeable slowdown, not the great speeds I hear everyone else talking about very noticeable slowdown. I can't figure out why everyone says it's so good. I'm looking at getting another VPN because this one works so badly I have to keep it off 99% of the time to be able to do anything, which defeats the purpose.

What I particularly like in Surfshark is the cleanweb. It makes we searching and surfing absolutely pleasant. I'm not saying all ads are gone, but it's very close. As long as Surfshark keeps this feature up and working well, I keep Surfshark VPN for sure. If it wouldn't have it, I think I would leave.

I bought a subscription for three years, everything was ok, until recently, when the company turned off the server in Russia and refused to return the money for the subscription. I bought a subscription only because of the server in Russia. Numerous letters, explanations and conversations simply have no effect. There are stupid people-robots who hate all Russians. the company is just scammers, they took the money, but did not provide the service and said that they do what they want.

Hello. You said in the review that Surfshark is from the Netherlands. You confused me. Isn't it located in the British Virgin Islands? Thanks.

Hello! It was located in the British Virgin Islands for a long time, but recently it relocated to the Netherlands.

I would beg for help. I noticed that when using Surfshark vpn, PORT 443 is open and when I use another VPN, port 443 is closed. Can you explain to me what it is and is it a problem ??! Thanks.

Hi!

A port is a virtual address that is used as a communication endpoint by transport layer protocols. Port 443 is a standard port used by HTTPS traffic. In short, other platforms, applications use port 443 to ask for secure connection, so it isn't really a problem and you can continue using Surfshark.

Does Surfshark proxy shadowsocks protocol encrypt traffic? I've heard that proxies do not encrypt trafic like vpns. If so, why is it needed at all?
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
That is true, Shadowsocks doesn't encrypt your traffic as VPN does. However, it does change your IP address, so you can still avoid censorship.

nice review guys! so as i understand, WireGuard is surfshark’s best protocol, but is it better or worse than NordLynx?
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
NordLynx code is proprietary, so it’s hard to answer for sure, but it still is based on WireGuard. In both cases, you will be getting a similar performance. Still, NordLynx could be a bit better than WireGuard as it was in development longer.

Damn surfshark offer is close to what top players have (nordvpn and expressvpn), do you know why is surfshark so cheap? How are they able to do that?
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
Surfshark is still missing a lot of features, so not like the service is on equal terms with most of its competitors. However, they’re great at focusing on the areas that are most important for most VPN users and providing them for an affordable price.

Does Surfshark VPN offer dedicated IP? Does it work with Wireguard protocol? ThankS!
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
No, Surfshark doesn’t offer individual dedicated IP options. Though, if you go on their app, you can find static IP servers. If you connect to them, you will each time be assigned the same IP address.

I truly believe every vpn service should use RAM-only servers for true security and privacy for their users. Well done Surfshark! Hopefully more vpn providers choose to follow this practice.

Does Surfshark have 3 year plan as well? I expect that could save even more money. Do you know where I could find some good discounts for such long term VPN subscription?
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
Well, various coupon pages offer some discounts. I would also follow them on Twitter or other media and wait for their announcements. Most providers use these to share their promo deals.
As it stands now, they don’t have plans that last longer than a year.

Surfshark speeds seem a bit weird. Download speed is amazing and upload speed can be like ten times slower (not everywhere though). Is that the case with other vpns as well? How to know which server to pick (as differences among them can be so massive). I know there’s the quick connect option but that usually gives me something close and not the country I actually need for netflix (just an example). grateful for any help x
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
There is no simple answer, you’ll have to test which location works best for you manually. The rule of thumb is that a nearby server should provide you with better speeds, but this also depends on their load.

Guys, how to use surfshark VPN? I’ve noticed that there is a lot of information about VPNs, their features. I’m easily influenced, so I also want a VPN for Netflix. Surfshark seems cheap and good according to your review.

We also have guides to install a VPN on your device. For example, in this article, I’ve added simple instructions to installing and using a VPN service.
I’ve used Surfshark as an example, so it should be pretty straightforward.

Surfshark’s customer support page has a guide on how to install it on Firestick. Don’t forget that 1st gen Firesticks don’t support VPNs.

Hi! I’ve downloaded Surfshark, however I can’t find it on my PC. What format is Surfshark location files? I think that it might be my antivirus keeps removing it and I can’t find it.
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 2 years ago
You could try going into your browser’s settings to check where is your default download location. If that doesn’t help, you could also try using the search function to look for install files. It will be called “Surfshark.Setup”

Surfshark is a very underrated VPN in my opinion. It’s very cheap comparing to other providers, is fast and has very useful features. That’s why I got it. Also, I really want to try buying games cheaper. Didn’t find any suggestions on how to install surfshark VPN on xbox one?
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 3 years ago
Sadly, Surfshark doesn’t have an app for Xbox. So if you want to use a VPN with it, you’ll either have to share a VPN connection via PC or via a router. This page will give you more information.

Finally, I’ve purchased Surfshark VPN! The best features is unlimited devices connected at the same time. I’ve tried it on my PC and everything works smoothly, however i don’t know how do i set up surfshark vpn on my samsung smart tv? I can’t find Surfshark app in the hub. Could you provide a simple guide please.
Justinas Mazūra
prefix 3 years ago
You can’t find it because it doesn’t exist. Your best bet with Samsung Smart TV is setting up a smart DNS. Here’s their guide.
