Future repairs for the iPhone 16 may be more expensive for those who don’t have Apple Care.
While those who’ve just upgraded to the latest iPhone 16 might not be worrying about things like battery replacement just yet, they’ll need to pay more for the service in the future.
Apple has reportedly increased the fee for battery replacement for iPhones with expired warranties. The list now also includes iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, with a new battery for these models now costing $199 – $20 more than previously.
Nevertheless, the battery replacement for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will cost $99, the same price as for older Apple smartphone models.
The change shouldn’t affect users with new phones, as these Apple devices come with at least a year-long Apple Care+ plan.
With the Apple Care+ plan, users get their phone batteries replaced for free if their iPhone “holds less than 80 percent of its original capacity.”
Apple’s latest iPhones are equipped with larger batteries and include “new mechanical architecture that improves heat dissipation.” This could also explain the price increase for battery replacement.
This isn’t the first time the company has increased the new battery fee. One already happened a few years ago, with the release of iPhone 14, increasing the cost from $69 to $99.
