Apple bets big on new Mac to reclaim its spot among competitors

Apple has fallen to fifth in PC shipments worldwide, but it may have a chance to redeem itself with the launch of its latest Macs.

Information on the global PC market shows growth during the third quarter of 2024. The shipment of desktops, notebooks, and workstations was up 1.3% to 66.4 million units, with the market expected to grow at a faster pace in the future. However, only three out of the top five companies seem to be actually growing in terms of PC sales.

This could become possible with the release of AI PCs, businesses needing to upgrade their devices to Windows 11 to avoid having to pay extended support fees, and the upcoming festive season, which could increase computer sales in the consumer section.

The data provided by Canalys shows the top five vendors, with Lenovo taking the first place with an annual growth rate of 2.8%.

Meanwhile, Apple is in fifth place, with an annual growth rate of -17.5 %, indicating a decline in sales. The company's market share decreased from 9.5% in the third quarter of 2023 to 7.7 % during the same quarter of 2024. Last quarter, the company shipped a little over five million Macs.

The companies that outran Apple in the third quarter of this year are Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Asus.

While the most recent quarter wasn’t so successful for Apple, the situation might change in the future, with the company releasing its latest MacBooks. It's predicted that the second launch of Apple’s products should take place in the second half of October.

Leaks and unconfirmed speculations before a device launch are quite a frequent phenomenon. However, users recently received a particularly surprising and detailed glimpse into the next M4 MacBook Pro. Many users were puzzled after seeing an unboxing video uploaded by a Russian YouTuber who received Apple’s latest device, which hasn’t even been released yet.

While it's not yet confirmed whether the laptop he reviewed is legit, this could be seen as a serious breach at the company.
