The smartphone may reveal details about China’s technological capabilities.

Chinese company Huawei has officially confirmed the launch date of the Mate 70, its next top-of-the-line flagship.

Richard Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei’s consumer group, announced the launch on the Chinese social network Weibo, the South China Morning Post reports.

The executive also said that the smartphone will be “the most powerful Mate in history,” without providing any details.

It will be interesting to watch the launch of Mate 70, as it may reveal what progress the Chinese company has made in attempting to develop its own domestic industry amid US sanctions.

Teardowns of Huawei's previous flagships, such as Pura 70 Pro, revealed that the company unexpectedly used some homegrown parts, such as NAND memory chips.

According to experts, the upcoming smartphone may feature other domestic components, such as DRAM and OLED displays, this time around.

The Mate 70 may be equipped with Harmony OS 5, previously called Harmony OS Next, which no longer supports Android apps.

Currently, the OS is in beta testing and supports around 15,000 Android apps. The smartphone should work with virtual assistant Xiaoyi, which is based on Huawei’s own Pangu large language models.
