The features include remote control capabilities and navigation.
The German automotive company Mercedes-Benz has launched an app for Apple Watch users, allowing them to access vehicle functions without taking out their smartphones.
According to the company’s press release, the app's key features include checking battery and fuel levels, remotely locating their vehicle, and locking or unlocking a car at a distance.
Users can also use compass mode for navigation in open areas where mapping is unavailable and check that the windows are properly closed.
The Mercedes Benz app must be installed on an iPhone, and the watch must run WatchOS 9 or later.
The features are available for Mercedes-Benz models that were released in 2019 or later.
However, the availability of certain features in the app may depend on the vehicle's model and equipment. The company claims that navigation and EV-specific functions may only be available on some vehicles.
Other car manufacturers, including BMW, Volvo, and Honda, offer similar features for smartwatches. Recent reports suggest that Tesla is also preparing an Apple Watch version that will serve as a digital car key.
