TikTok is turning into a Wikipedia for movies and TV shows

TikTok Spotlight provides users with the latest info about movies and TV shows.

TikTok is about to release a new in-app feature called TikTok Spotlight, which will allow users to find out more about upcoming movies, TV shows, and franchises.

The social media app shared a few details about how the feature works. While users are watching TikTok videos related to movies and TV shows yet to be released, they can follow a presented anchor link to a special landing page dedicated to that specific movie or TV show.

On the landing page, users can find detailed information about the film or TV show, including “synopsis, cast, official accounts, and a collection of other creator content linked to the same title, allowing fans to explore the fandom and conversation around the title, fully immersing themselves in the community,” shares TikTok.

In addition to this information, platform users will also be able to see the streaming options or buy movie tickets to watch them in the cinema.

TikTok names this new feature as a “new promotional solution that drives community on [...] platform and makes it easy for studios to harness the power of TikTok for upcoming releases and library content.”

For this to work, the company has been collaborating with studios and providing them with an analytics dashboard that gives insights into how TikTok users react to their content and look for “developing trends.”

The feature has already been put to the test while promoting Dune: Part Two and House of the Dragon.
