Tech and tails: what do those two kingdoms have in common (Quiz)

The tech world often draws its inspiration from the animal kingdom, which resonates with consumers. We decided to explore the intersection of technology and the animal kingdom.

I tested my colleagues' knowledge in the field during this week’s podcast. I bet you can get more answers right than they did, can’t you?

Enjoy!

Scroll down and take a little test. I’ve also listed all the answers in the second part of this article.

Refined Kitten, Helix Kitten, Charming Kitten, Remix Kitten, Fox Kitten, and Static Kitten are all names of one country's state-sponsored hacker collectives. Name that country.

Experts have noted that calling these hacker collectives ‘kittens’ demonstrates a lack of respect for Iran’s hacking capabilities.

However, the situation has recently changed, as Iran has been integrating its cyber operations into military strategy, investing heavily in building out their computer network attack and exploit capabilities.

Name the animal associated with the Mozilla Foundation.

Although one of Mozilla’s most famous brands is the browser Firefox, the company isn’t represented by a fox. Instead, it’s a dinosaur.

Mozilla dino
Mozilla retired this cute dino in 2017 and doesn't use it as its logo anymore. However, this little dude can still be found on the company's website.

This character "wears" a tux and is nearly 30 years old. Name the character and the company it represents.

The answer is a penguin, and the company in question is Linux.

Linus Torvalds, the founder of Linux, is very fond of penguins. This is due to their cooperation and team spirit, which is exactly the culture Torvalds was trying to foster in his company.

Think of the shape of a cat’s nose. What logo does it remind you of?

Funnily enough, it’s Tesla.

One Twitter user once tagged Elon Musk in a post asking if the rumor that Tesla’s logo is modeled on a cat’s nose is true, and he said yes. This might be just folklore, but every time I see the Tesla logo, I think of a cat. In reality, it’s just a stylized letter ‘T’ resembling a part of a tire.

If you ignore this app for too long, its mascot will become sad and old. Name the app and its mascot.

It’s the Duolingo owl. Approximately two months ago, the internet went wild over the new Duolingo icon, which pictured an old and sad owl. The company’s response was the following:

“Our iconic mascot, Duo the Owl, is quite literally exhausted from doing everything he can to remind learners to do their lessons. From ice skating in a 4-hour musical to receiving BBL plastic surgery for the Super Bowl, he’s had an insanely busy few months. His latest strategy? Honesty.”

Flipper Zero is a powerful little Tamagotchi-like device beloved by hackers. What animal is "living" inside it?

A dolphin. It’s literally like Tamagotchi. You must keep your digital friend happy by interacting with it more often, for example, by reading, saving, and emulating keys, cards, and remotes.

Another pocket companion-type device has received a lot of negative attention recently. While marketed as the first AI device, some experts said it was just an Android app. Name the device.

Rabbit R1. Not much of an explanation here just that it is a pocket companion. But can you fit a rabbit into your pocket, and how useful are they, anyway?
