Instagram goes down for thousands to Twitter users' delight

Twitter users rejoiced as Instagram went down for thousands of people Wednesday evening.

During the peak of the outage, close to 50,000 users reported issues with logging in and accessing the social media app, according to the Downdetector outage tracking site.

The majority of users experienced the outage for about a couple of hours before it died down, although some remained affected. The tech platform says the technical issue has been resolved.

"Earlier tonight, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved this issue for everyone as quickly as possible," Instagram said in a tweet.

In response, Twitter users went wild, creating meme after meme to celebrate Instagram's breakdown.

Here are just a few of the more colorful ones that have been floating around the Twitter-verse since the outage.

About 2,000 users from the UK also reported being affected. Australia and India followed the UK with about 1,000 users reporting the outage online.

Instagram has not issued a statement about what or who may have caused the outage.

Meanwhile, Twitter suffered its own massive outage on Tuesday, caused by a lone employee, with broken links and issues loading videos and images.

It was the second outage for the messaging service since recent layoffs.
