Zeekr claims world’s fastest-charging EV battery

The Chinese carmaker Zeekr claims that its new electric vehicle (EV) battery is the fastest charging in the world, outperforming rivals like BYD and Tesla.

Zeekr said that its upgraded batteries allowed a car to charge from 10% to 80% capacity in 10 and a half minutes using its ultra-fast charging stations.

In comparison, a similar feat for the fastest-charging models from BYD, another Chinese manufacturer, could take about 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, a Tesla Model 3 will add an additional 172 miles (282 km) of range if plugged into a Supercharger for 15 minutes.

The 2025 Zeekr 007 sedan, which launches next week, will be the carmaker’s first model to have the new batteries.

The firm said that the battery performed well even in “harsh” environmental conditions, including charging from 10% to 80% capacity within 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F).

Zeekr is a subsidiary of the Chinese auto giant Geely, which also owns the Swedish carmaker Volvo, the British luxury car marque Lotus, and London EV Company, the manufacturer of the British capital’s black taxicabs.

The company has also recently partnered with the Chinese robot maker UBTech to deploy a humanoid robot to its factory for training – the latest in the auto industry to start testing the technology.
