Acer announces two premium Chromebook Plus laptops

Taiwanese manufacturer Acer has debuted two Chromebook Plus laptops, which will feature Google’s built-in AI features.

On Tuesday, Google announced new tools for Chromebook Plus devices, including Magic Editor, built-in Gemini, Gaming Dashboard, and others. These tools, as well as a one-year Google One AI Premium plan, will also be available for the latest Acer devices.

The slightly pricier Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is a laptop with 360-degree hinges that can be converted to a tablet. The 14-inch device has a 1920 x 1200 TFT LCD screen, which covers the full sRGB color range, ensuring vibrant and accurate images.

It comes with several configurations and will be powered either by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor (up to 15th gen) or Intel Core Ultra 5.

Acer claims the laptop's 1440p QHD webcam has temporal noise reduction technology that ensures better visibility in low-light conditions. For a better sound experience, Spin 714 is equipped with a dual microphone pair, dual upward-facing speakers, and DTS® Audio.

The Spin 714 will feature WiFi 6E connectivity, up to 16GB RAM, and up to 512GB SSD, and its battery lasts up to 10 hours.

According to Acer, the price of the device in North America starts at $749.99, while in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, it will be EUR 979.

Chromebook Plus 516 GE

The other model, Chromebook Plus 516 GE, is a laptop aimed at gamers. While the device may lack the specs for the best gaming experience, it comes with a free NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud service gaming membership, which will compensate for the lack of specs.

NVIDIA GeForce NOW offers a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU gaming experience for devices that have less powerful GPUs.

The 16.0" Chromebook Plus 516 GE features a WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS display, full sRGB color range, and supports a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s powered either by a 15-gen Intel Core Ultra 7 or 12-gen Intel Core Ultra 5 and comes with up to 2TB SSD storage, up to 16GB of RAM, and 10 hours of battery life.

It also has a gaming keyboard with colored 4-zone preset backlight color modes, while anti-ghosting technology ensures that all key presses on a keyboard are registered and executed without error.

The company says the device’s 1080p webcam features integrated AI-powered video call tools that enhance clarity, lighting, and sound on any video call app.

Acer Chromebook Plus 516 prices in North America start at $699.
