New report confirms Apple’s iPhone 17 Slim and points to camera downgrade

Rumored Apple’s ultra slim iPhone will be all about the form factor, not the hardware, analyst says.

In a few months, Apple will unveil its new iPhone 16 series. According to rumors, the 16-series line of four smartphones isn’t expected to feature significant changes.

More notable updates are believed to come with next year’s models. While September 2025 is still quite far away, we already have some solid insights about the upcoming iPhone 17 line, which should feature a completely new, thin model dubbed by some as iPhone 17 Slim.

Now, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirms these claims, adding some new details.

According to Kuo, the upcoming Apple flagship will feature only one rear camera as opposed to two found in iPhone 15 and Plus models and three in the Pro and Pro Max.

Kuo says that the Slim might feature approximately a 6,6-inch 2k ( 2,740 x 1,260) resolution screen, an A19 chip, and a Dynamic island area similar to current models.

The Slim will reportedly be made of a titanium-aluminum alloy metal frame, with a lower percentage of titanium than the current Pro and Pro Max metal frames.

Some of the 2025 Apple smartphones are also set to feature Apple’s in-house 5G chip instead of Qualcomm’s. Apple has been trying to develop its chips for years, but it ran into technical challenges. Last year, Qualcomm announced that it had agreed to provide chips to Apple for 2024-2026 smartphones.

Kuo, in a separate blog post, says that the iPhone 17 Slim and next year’s iPhone SE will be the models to get Apple’s in-house 5G chip.

Apart from the news about the iPhone 17 Slim, we also know that next year, Apple is likely to discontinue its Plus model, as it accounts for only 5-10% of all sales. According to Kuo, the 17 Slim model isn’t aimed at replacing the Plus.
