HMD announces three old-school 2G Nokia phones

HMD, the company that owns the Nokia brand, has announced three upgraded retro-style phones for those who want to limit their social media screen time or feel nostalgic about the old-school Snake game.

The company's website announced upgraded versions of the classic phones Nokia 5310, Nokia 6310, and Nokia 230.

All the revamped phones have a 1450 mAh battery – slightly better than the previous models, which were equipped with 1150 mAh or 1200 mAh, depending on the model. According to the company, the phones can last up to 27 days on a standby mode.

The phones have curved 2.8 ” QVGA IPS display, come with dual-sim, USB-C charging port, and have 16 MB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32 GB via MicroSD.

From a design perspective, there don’t seem to be any significant changes. The Nokia 6310 is still a classy, lightly redesigned phone from the early 2000s with larger buttons; the Nokia 5310 has dedicated music buttons and dual front-facing speakers, while the Nokia 230 comes with an aluminium back cover.

There is no information on how much the phones will cost or their release date on the HMD website.

Those who are considering buying a retro-style phone should take into account that these models work only on 2G, and some countries and carriers are turning off 2G networks.

The original Nokia 6310 and Nokia 5310 were first launched in the early 2000s, while the Nokia 230 was first announced in 2015 when Microsoft owned the brand. Later, in 2020 and 2021, both phones were relaunched with design upgrades.

At the end of last year, the maker of Nokia phones, HMD Global, announced that it would launch a new phone brand to coexist with Nokia. HMD-branded phones are expected to be announced later this year.
