The Omnibook Ultra comes with a neural processing unit (NPU) that outperforms all its competitors.
We’ve heard a lot about new Copilot + PCs in the last few months. These new devices, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite System on a Chip (SoC), not only offer AI capabilities but also feature new Arm architecture, which significantly improves the battery life of these new Windows devices.
HP was among manufacturers that announced Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm’s SoC, including a 14-inch OmniBook X.
Now, the company has unveiled OmniBook Ultra, a similar 14-inch model with different tech specs. The device will be powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 processor, which promises unparalleled AI capabilities and works on x86 architecture.
The most distinguishing feature of HP’s OmniBook Ultra is its NPU, a separate chip dedicated to handling AI tasks. Our recent article provides more information about NPUs and AI PCs.
With 55 trillion operations per second (TOPS), it’s the most powerful AI-capable laptop on the market, beating those with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, which can achieve 45 TOPS. HP’s OmniBook Ultra also has more TOPS than other devices with the same Ryzen AI 300 processor, which can reach up to 50 TOPS.
Contrary to Qualcomm-powered laptops, OmniBook Ultra has no Copilot+ AI capabilities for now, but HP says it will add Copilot+ features via an update in the future. However, the laptop comes with its own AI perks. It has an AI-enabled high-resolution 9 MP camera using the Poly Camera Pro app and Windows Studio Effects.
Meanwhile, AI Companion optimizes the device for greater productivity. According to HP, it will soon offer expanded functionality for managing PC settings and troubleshooting HP products.
OmniBook Ultra features an integrated AMD Radeon™ 800M graphics card and comes with HP’s security protection Wolf Security. The company claims that the security chip allows the PC’s core to self-heal from AI-assisted cyberattacks while keeping data private.
According to HP, the OmniBook Ultra can last up to 21 hours on a single charge. In comparison, HP’s Omnibook X on Arm can last up to 26 hours.
While the AMD-powered OmniBook Ultra may not offer the battery life of devices powered by Qualcomm’s SoC, it has other advantages.
AMD’s x86 architecture means that its users will not run into software compatibility issues and can play all the games and run programs like Blender or Adobe Premiere Pro.
OmniBook Ultra 14 will be available this August with a starting price of $1,450.
