Motorola unveils Razr 50 series foldable phones

Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, announced its latest flagship foldable phones, alongside a Bluetooth tracking device at an event in China.

After last year’s positive reviews and feedback, Motorola’s Razr predecessors were one of the most anticipated foldables of this year. Now, the company packed the new models with some additional improvements.

This time, both Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra are equipped with larger external displays, which can run any app.

The more premium version of the phone, the Razr 50 Ultra, features a 4-inch external display and is currently the largest in the industry. A few weeks ago, China’s Honor launched its foldable Magic V Flip with the same size 4-inch secondary screen.

The Razr 50 features a slightly smaller, 3.6-inch external display, which is a significant improvement over last year’s 1.5-inch rectangular secondary screen.

The Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra’s main screen has a 6.9-inch Full HD + (1080 x 2640) pixels (413 ppi) display. The premium version can achieve an impressive up to 165 Hz refresh rate, while the Razr 50 is capable of 120 Hz.

Both of Motorola’s foldables feature a dual camera setup. The ultra model comes with a 50 MP main camera and a new 50 MP ultra lens, while the cheaper model has the same 13 MP ultrawide camera as last year’s model. The selfie camera in both devices is equipped with a 32 MP sensor.

Given the current AI trend in the tech world, almost every new phone launch includes AI features. The latest Razr series is not exempt from this trend as the latest device comes with AI features called Moto AI.

It offers various photography enhancements, including adapting movements for better videos and horizontal lock, which makes shots steady and smooth, the company claims.

In the Ultra model, AI capabilities are empowered by the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system on a chip. Meanwhile, the Razr 50 is run on by Mediatek’s Dimensity 7300X.

The Ultra model features a 4200 mAh battery, 30 W charging, and 15 W wireless charging.

The Razr 50 version comes with a 4000 mAh battery, 45W fast charging, and 15 W wireless charging. According to Motorola, 12 minutes of powering up the Razr 50 will be enough for the day of use.

The Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra come with 8 GB/12 GB of RAM and 256 GB/512 GB of storage and run on Android 14.

The prices of the Razr 50 in the US start at around $700, while the Ultra’s starting price is around $1100. The phones are available for pre-orders from July 10th.

In addition to the phones, Motorola has also announced a Bluetooth tracker called Moto Tag. The company claims it will use Google’s Find My Device network and last for a whole year with a single charge.

The device will be water-resistant and encrypted. On its website, Motorola doesn’t specify when these devices will be available.
