Anthropic is investigating issues with some of its Claude AI models after the tech giant reported outages spanning over two days.
Claude said via its status page that it was investigating the issue, which it claims it had identified, and a fix is being implemented.
Anthropic reported a major outage yesterday (April 7th, 2026), causing elevated errors on Claude.ai, and is currently investigating a partial outage affecting Sonnet 4.6's elevated error rates.
Downdetector, a platform where users can report outages in real time, recorded a high level of issues on April 7th, 2026, with over 2,000 users in the US reporting problems with the service.
Not only did this partial outage affect Sonnet 4.6 today (April 8th, 2026), but it also impacted various other services such as Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude Console.
The elevated errors affecting Claude.ai have since been resolved, and Anthropic said the issue affected users’ login capabilities, ability to engage with voice mode, or completing chat with Claude.
Issues with Sonnet 4.6 were identified and supposedly resolved two days prior to the current partial outage. The reason behind the outage is unknown.
Cybernews tested Claude’s Sonnet 4.6 and asked if it was experiencing errors. The chatbot responded that it was up and running and had only experienced an outage of roughly three minutes.
However, the Claude status page shows that the outage lasted for just over an hour and a half.
US users also reported issues with Claude via Downdetector on April 8th, 2026. While the reports were significantly lower (around 470), they still show that users are experiencing limited operations within Claude services.
Reports suggest that Sonnet 4.6 appeared to get stuck when trying to “think” or reason when prompted.
Supposedly, the chatbot would “think” and return no results, according to The Independent.
