NordPass review – key takeaways
NordPass is a widely known password manager for its cross-platform compatibility and robust security features. Just like NordVPN, it is developed by the same cybersecurity team and is part of the Nord Security family
Here is a short overview of what NordPass password manager has to offer:
- Security – NordPass protects your passwords with modern XChaCha20 encryption, one of the strongest encryptions. It also provides a zero-knowledge architecture, meaning you are the only person who can access your data, and threat actors won't invade your privacy. NordPass also passed a high-standard independent security audit, supports mandatory multi-factor authentication for all users, and provides automatic backups to protect your information even if your device is lost.
-
Ease of use – NordPass is easy to use and provides smooth integration across all devices and browser extensions. Its password management system is simple and easy to navigate, regardless of your experience level. Also, I liked how simple it was to switch from other password managers to NordPass because the password transfer process was quick and painless.
-
Features – NordPass provides the essential features you would expect from a password manager, including the password generator, autofill, instant login, password import/export, and cloud-based syncing across devices. It also has more advanced features like passkeys, data breach monitoring, secure sharing, and storage for credit card info, files, and notes.
-
Plans and pricing. There are four main NordPass plans: Free, Premium, Family, and Business, each catering to specific needs. The free plan offers essential password management for one user, and a Premium plan offers the same features but includes some of the more advanced ones, like data breach scanning. However, if you want to protect your whole family, you should get the Family plan, which includes all premium features and can be used by up to 6 users.

Who I recommend NordPass for
NordPass offers versatile solutions for different users. However, some types of consumers would benefit from NordPass the most:
- Freelancers and students often have many accounts, making management challenging. NordPass simplifies this by offering an easy-to-use and cheap password vault.
- Families often have multiple accounts, and purchasing separate password managers for each member can be costly. NordPass solves this with its affordable family plan, allowing up to 6 users to enjoy an easy-to-use and secure password manager.
- Businesses may need a secure way of managing and sharing passwords among team members. NordPass solves that problem with its secure password sharing and access control features, ensuring only authorized employees can access accounts.
- Individuals who care about online hygiene can easily benefit from NordPass. It provides a secure place to store and manage their passwords, reducing the risk of forgetting or reusing weak passwords.
NordPass pricing and plans
NordPass offers three main plans – Free, Premium, and Family – each designed to meet different needs. So whether you're looking for basic security, advanced features, or a solution for multiple users, NordPass will always have a plan for your needs.

NordPass Free version
NordPass has a great free version. With it, you can store unlimited passwords, secure notes, and credit card details. It also lets you sync your password vault across all devices to access it nearly from anywhere.
However, it offers fewer features than the premium plans and supports only a single user account, meaning only one person can access the vault at a time.
Compared to other free versions of popular password managers like RoboForm, NordPass lacks several features. For example, the free version doesn't offer a password health checker or emergency access.
However, if you’re not concerned about additional features and simply want a secure, free place to store your passwords, the NordPass Free plan is an excellent choice and will do the job perfectly
NordPass Premium
The NordPass Premium plan costs $1.24/month, offering much more than the free plan. It includes a data breach scanner and password health detection features, ensuring your passwords haven’t been compromised in recent data breaches or reused. It also features email masking, which generates alternative email addresses to protect your real one.
Its comprehensive features make it a full-fledged password security tool that is highly convenient for various purposes. Additionally, compared to other providers' premium plans, such as 1Password, NordPass stands out by offering similar features at a lower price.
Generally speaking, I recommend the Premium plan for those who prioritize privacy and need to manage numerous accounts. NordPass Premium delivers great password health tools, strong security, and affordability.
NordPass Family
The NordPass Family plan supports up to 6 accounts per subscription, compared to the single account included with the Premium plan. Despite this distinction, both plans offer the same features, with the Family plan costing just $2.68 per month.
The account owner can manage other users, adding or removing accounts as needed and controlling access levels for each user. Unlike 1Password’s family plan, which offers similar features but limits guest accounts to five, NordPass stands out by providing six guest accounts.
The Family plan is an excellent choice for families or friend groups seeking a shared, cost-effective solution to enhance security.
If you just need a place to keep your passwords safe and in one location. The NordPass Free version is a good solution. However, consider the Premium plan if you want higher security, additional features, and a way to share your passwords safely. Therefore, choose the Family plan if you need coverage for more than one person. That's because free and premium plans cover only a single account.
Get NordVPNNordPass for businesses
Talking business, NordPass has 3 corporate plans: Teams, Business, and Enterprise. All plans include the same features as the Premium plan but are tailored for larger teams, supporting up to 250 devices. Each plan has its own unique features, so you’ll need to decide which best suits your company’s needs. Refer to the table below to see how NordPass' business plans differ.

NordPass teams
The Teams plan is a great password management solution for smaller businesses or teams. Priced starting at just $1.79/month per user, it supports up to 10 users. For its lowcost, it includes all the features of the Premium plan, while also adding company-wide settings and Google Workspace Single Sign-On (SSO), allowing users to log in to both Google Workspace and NordPass with the same credentials.
NordPass business
The Business plan is a complete upgrade from the Team plan. Instead of protecting just 10 team members, it supports up to 250 users for only $3.59/month per user. It includes everything in the Teams plan and adds more features, such as the security dashboard, which allows you to monitor your organization's security. This means you can see the status of all members within the organization, the passwords they can access, and the health of all passwords. The Nordpass Business plan also includes the shared folders feature, allowing you to set up shared password folders, easily invite members, adjust their access rights, and transfer ownership. These features are handy for larger companies with multiple departments. Each owner can track the activity of all passwords in the company, and passwords can be organized into folders for each department.
NordPass enterprise
The Enterprise plan is the most advanced of the trio. It allows unlimited users, costs $5.39/month per user, and includes everything from the previous 2 plans. However, it adds 3 additional features that large enterprises can benefit from. First, it lets you have an SSO with not only Google but also Entra ID, MS ADFS, and Okta, so your users will not have any trouble signing in to all of these platforms. Additionally, you'll gain access to a feature called Sharing Hub, which enables the owner or admin to view all company-related activity. This includes items created by users, items shared internally and externally, details of who has access to which items, and information on who shared or created each item. The Enterprise plan would suit large organizations needing advanced security, multiple login systems support, and detailed control over user access and activity.
Subscriptions and refund policy
NordPass offers a variety of payment options, including credit and debit cards, Google Pay, PayPal, direct debit, and even cryptocurrencies. Users also benefit from a 30-day money-back guarantee for personal accounts and a 14-day guarantee for business clients. However, this guarantee only applies to your first purchase, and if you cancel after the renewal, you won’t be refunded for any recurring payments.
What I especially like about NordPass is that all its paid plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. It’s essentially a free trial – I can explore NordPass's premium features, and if I’m not satisfied with something, I can easily get my money back.
Get NordPassIs NordPass secure?
Yes, NordPass is a secure password manager. It uses advanced encryption protocols, a zero-knowledge architecture, and undergoes regular independent audits. These features ensure that your sensitive data, such as passwords and payment details, are stored securely and remain accessible only to you. In this section, I’ll explore how NordPass achieves top-tier security and why it’s a reliable choice for protecting your online credentials.
End-to-end encryption
End-to-end encryption ensures that only you and the server can read or decrypt your data. When you store something in the vault, it's encrypted on your device and can only be decrypted by the server. This means that even if someone intercepts the message, they won't be able to read it because they don't have the decryption key.
NordPass uses XChaCha20 encryption to secure your data. This modern and secure encryption algorithm ensures that your passwords and sensitive information remain protected.
Independent audits
NordPass passed the System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 audits in 2022 and 2023. Type 1 evaluates how well an organization's controls are designed and documented based on trust principles. Meanwhile, the Type 2 demonstrates the effectiveness of the security measures.
SOC accreditation is like a confirmation that NordPass has the necessary measures to protect your sensitive information. Because of that, you can sleep well knowing your passwords are safe.
Zero-knowledge architecture
The zero-knowledge architecture means that NordPass staff can't see your data, as all your information is encrypted on your device before it reaches their servers. This ensures that only you, with your master password, can decrypt and access it.
However, please remember that if you forget your NordPass master password, you could lose access to all the data in your vault. The only two ways to unlock it are to set up a recovery option in advance or to remember your password.
NordPass security features
NordPass has every essential security feature you’d expect from a password manager, such as a password generator, autofill, instant login and password import/export. Additionally, it offers even more advanced features like passkeys, secure password sharing, data breach monitoring, and live text scanning.
Here’s the complete list of features NordPass offers, as shown in the table.

I tested every NordPass feature under various conditions to evaluate how well they work on desktop, mobile, and browser extensions. Below are my detailed reviews of each main feature.
Password Generator, autofill, instant login, and passkeys
I found the NordPass Password Generator very helpful. It allowed me to choose the desired length for my password, and offered a variety of other customization options, including the ability to include numbers, symbols, and uppercase/lowercase letters.

To test it, I made a new Facebook account. It asked me to create a password that was at least 6 characters long, including numbers and punctuation marks. However, NordPass generates passwords with a minimum of 8 characters, as 6-character passwords are considered too short by today’s standards.
I selected my preferred password length, enabled digits and symbols, and easily met Facebook's password requirements. I also discovered another handy feature: the ability to generate passphrases instead of random characters. I found this incredibly useful, as passphrases are much easier to memorize.
Once I was happy with the output, I saved the password to my NordPass vault by clicking the + button, and that was it.

NordPass also offers an autofill function. To use it, I first had to install the browser extension on my desktop, and once that was done, I could start using it immediately.
During testing, my experience was great. NordPass automatically filled in passwords wherever I attempted to log in. However, NordPass was more basic compared to RoboForm's form-filling feature, which allows autofilling all sorts of information, including credit card and other personal details.
Additionally, NordPass can store, create, and use passkeys instead of traditional passwords. I could use it to log in to websites that support this feature. Also, If you don't like passkeys, you can use your biometric data instead to verify your identity.
During my testing, passkeys worked smoothly. I created an account on a site that supports passkeys, and NordPass generated two passkey versions: a private one, saved and encrypted on my device, and a public one, stored on the website's servers.
When I logged in, I simply entered my account name and used my phone to confirm the login with my passkey. I was logged in immediately.\
I also tested NordPass’s instant login, and it worked as expected. The credentials autofilled instantly, and I was logged in within seconds without needing to type anything manually.
Sharing and storing passwords and other information
NordPass provides a secure way to share passwords with multiple users, which we frequently use at Cybernews. We constantly need various tools for our work, so we share our accounts. However, if we did it by just copying passwords, that would be a significant security risk. That's why we only share passwords with this feature. To see what logins you have access to, search for the Shared Items menu button.

Meanwhile, if you want to share a password, select it from the main menu and type in the recipient’s email address. After that, it’ll encrypt and send the password to that user. However, the recipient must use NordPass to access those shared credentials.
When I was testing the password-sharing feature, NordPass first asked if I would like to give the recipient full or limited access to the shared password. Limited access lets the recipient use the shared data but not edit it, while full access gives the recipient the full right to edit it.
Additionally, even if NordPass is password-focused, you can securely share other data. To do that, I went to the Secure Notes tab in the main menu, typed in a security code, and shared it via a generated link. I could also choose the link expiration time, either 24 hours or immediately after the recipient reads the message.

Additionally, the content of the message will be encrypted. So, your shared information is secure, and only you and the recipient will know what content was shared.
Overall, I loved the NordPass' password-sharing functions. They were easy to use, and I appreciated being able to choose the level of access for the recipient.
The only downside was that the recipient must also have a NordPass account. However, this requirement is common among other providers, such as RoboForm and 1Password.
Password Health and Data Breach Scanner
The Password Health Checker is a NordPass feature available with the premium subscription. It checks my passwords and informs me about their state. It works by scanning all passwords for weak spots and then grouping the results into these categories:
- Weak passwords. These passwords are too short and are easy to guess or crack. They lack a mix of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and symbols.
- Reused passwords. This tab shows the passwords used for multiple accounts. Using the same password across different sites increases the risk of losing more data if one account gets hacked.
- Old passwords. This section shows any password that hasn’t been changed for more than 90 days.
NordPass considers any passwords that fall under any of these categories weak and flags them as a vulnerability in your security. So make sure to check this tab regularly and maintain your data safety.
When I tested the Password Health Cchecker, it found 2 weak and 3 old passwords in my vault. After I updated them, the report came back clear.

The NordPass Data Breach Scanner is another excellent in-built feature. It checks whether your passwords or other sensitive information have ever been leaked, and it’s available with Premium plans. The tool automatically compares items saved in your vault with information found on leaked databases. While I found using this tool extra simple, I didn’t like that I couldn’t manually enable the instant scanning process on my device.
The scanner is not limited to account credentials, and I could also check banking information. I was able to look for leaked credit card data that matched my last name and the last four digits of the card.

NordPass Data Breach Scanner also provides information about what type of data was compromised, when, and where. It then gave me recommendations on how to secure affected accounts.
Overall, my experience with the Password Health checker and Data Breach Scanner was great. However, there's always room for improvement.
For example, the Password Health checker in NordPass only shows the strength of individual passwords and not my entire vault. Dashlane, on the other hand, provides an overview of my overall online security, which I wish NordPass included as well.
Emergency Access and Authentication
Emergency Access allowed me to grant my closest contacts read-only access to my passwords, which I found very helpful in case I forgot or lost my master password. However, it's worth noting that Emergency Access is not available on macOS.
While I liked emergency access, it was basic. Keeper, for example, lets you designate five people to access your passwords. It also indicates how much time should pass before your vault is accessible to them. So, while the feature is quite similar, I found NordPass' version too simplistic.
When it comes to authentication, I noticed that biometric authentication isn't supported by default on desktop devices unless I connect an external fingerprint scanner. Once I did, I had to enable Touch ID with Mac, and on Windows, I had to use Windows Hello. However, the Linux app didn't support biometric authentication at all.
NordPass setup and compatibility
To put NordPass to the test, I used iPhone (iOS 15.0), MacBook Air (macOS Sonoma), Samsung (Android 11), and Lenovo ThinkPad (Windows 11) devices. I discovered that it is very easy to use and intuitive across different devices. Overall, I found NordPass to be both feature-rich and lightweight. The number of tools might seem overwhelming when listed, but the truth is that you don’t notice the abundance once using the app – they are integrated quite seamlessly into the user experience.
NordPass setup
I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up NordPass. The process was intuitive, and while the steps might vary slightly depending on your device, NordPass provides helpful Getting Started guides and 24/7 support if you ever need assistance. Here’s a quick walkthrough of how I set it up and some features I found particularly useful.
NordPass offers both free and paid plans, but I opted for the paid version, which I highly recommend. It unlocks many additional features, and you can even get a good deal using our NordPass coupons. First, I downloaded and installed the app on my computer, launched it, and clicked Create Account. This redirected me to the Nord Account website, where I signed up.

After that, I logged in to the NordPass app and was prompted to set up a Master Password. You will use this password to unlock your password vault every time.
Once that was done, I generated a Recovery Code as a backup in case I ever forgot my Master Password, which I highly recommend for peace of mind. With that, I was ready to use NordPass, but I suggest going further by adding extra security layers and customizing your setup.
I set up two-factor authentication (2FA) in the app settings, adding an extra protection layer when logging in. I also found it useful to configure Emergency Access, which ensures that I will be able to recover my account in case I forget my Master Password and Recovery Code.

With the security in place, I imported my saved passwords from other password managers and browsers, although you can also enter them manually. I was pleasantly surprised by how effortless it was to import passwords from another password manager – the entire process took just a few clicks.

For convenience, I downloaded the NordPass browser extension, which automatically fills in login details and integrates smoothly into my everyday browsing. It makes things so much quicker!

I also recommend exploring features like password health, the data breach scanner, and email masking, which are worth checking out.
Before I dive deeper into different NordPass apps, here’s a quick summary of its compatibility:
Desktop app | NordPass is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, and you can set it up on both desktops and PCs. The apps are very easy to navigate and intuitive, with a neat, user-friendly interface for rapid daily use. |
Mobile app | NordPass mobile app is compatible with Android and iOS devices. I found the app to be very simple to navigate and locate necessary features or vaults. |
Browser extension | NordPass works with all main browsers, like Chrome, Edge, and Safari. While the autofill function did not work perfectly, overall, NordPass app browser extensions worked quite smoothly. |
Web Vault | NordPass web vault is an app-free solution, as it works just like an app but is web-based. I found this tool very handy and effortless to use. |
NordPass desktop apps
Based on my hands-on experience, NordPass desktop apps are really intuitive. Upon opening, I could see all of my items displayed in a list. I appreciate that you can order this list alphabetically, by folder, or based on when the password was last used – in any way that is the most convenient for you. You can also use the search bar at the top to find items instead of scrolling.

All of the features are neatly put under Categories, Folders, and Tools. Such categorization made it easy for us to find all necessary items and information in no time.
Categories:
- Passwords
- Passkeys
- Secure notes
- Credit cards
- Personal info
- Shared items
- Trash
Folders:
In this tab, you can individually create folders and access them quickly later.
Tools:
- Password Generator
- Password Health
- Data Breach Scanner
- Emergency Access
NordPass mobile apps
The NordPass mobile app is the same on Android and iOS, both in the sense of design and user experience. During testing, I found it very easy to set NordPass up on both Android and iOS devices. The apps are intuitive, easy to use and navigate. I particularly enjoyed that everything on the apps is easily accessible from a simple menu at the bottom of the screen:
- Home. This is the main tab where you can see all your saved passwords and add new ones. Also, it includes a search bar to find a particular password quicker.
- Browse. This section categorizes saved items for easier access. You can browse through passwords, secure notes, credit cards, personal information, folders, shared and deleted items.
- Tools. Here, you can find all NordPass useful features, including a Password Generator, Password Health, and a Data Breach Scanner.
- Menu. This is the tab where you can access settings, help center, switch accounts, or lock the NordPass app.

The NordPass mobile apps have the same features as the desktop applications, including passwords, personal information, credit cards, and secure note storage. The tools are available as well – you can easily generate a password, check the health of your logins, and track whether your information appears in any data leaks.
What stood out to me was that the mobile apps have some advanced features. One of them is OCR, or optical character recognition, which essentially is live text recognition, something I have not yet seen in other password managers. Once you take a photo of a note or bank card, NordPass automatically scans the contents and fills out the item fields with that information. It may not always be accurate, but it definitely speeds up the process a little bit.
Another notable difference from the desktop applications is that biometric authentication is supported by default. You can use your fingerprint or Face ID to log into NordPass apps without your master password.
NordPass Web Vault
NordPass Web Vault is a convenient solution for people who don’t like apps. It is a web-based NordPass application you can log into from any device and browser. You don’t need to download and install the NordPass app on a device at all. Having a web vault is beneficial when you’re using devices that are not your own, such as a library PC or your friend’s phone in case of an emergency.
The NordPass web vault has the same interface and all the features of a regular desktop and mobile app. You can easily access all your passwords and other items, change your account details, and use the password generator, health checker, and data breach scanner.

I encountered absolutely no roadblocks when using the Web Vault. Since the design is the same across all NordPass apps – web-based or not – there were no navigation issues either. Logging in is as easy as ever – all you need is your Nord Account details and your master password.
NordPass extension for browsers
The NordPass extension is available for the most popular browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Brave.

The extensions offer the same functionality as desktop applications. So, for example, if you use Google Chrome and install the NordPass Chrome extension, it enables password autofill while browsing. When I tested the extension, the autofill function worked well on most sites, although details varied since the login form is different on each web page. For example, sites using unconventional login forms can cause slight issues. Meanwhile, creating new accounts was a breeze since NordPass immediately suggests a secure password and saves the details if you create an account.
However, one thing I thought was inconvenient with the NordPass browser plugin is that you can’t use tools or edit information directly through the extension. If you want to use a password generator or any other tool, you are prompted to open the desktop application. Besides, you can’t log into the browser extension without a desktop application either.
However, this practice is quite common among reliable password managers, and you’re unlikely to find other services that grant such privileges to their extensions. This limitation is implemented to minimize potential vulnerabilities and to ensure a compromised browser doesn’t have the opportunity to access your vault. Additionally, you can always edit information and access tools using the Web Vault.
NordPass customer support
Option | Availability |
24/7 live chat | ✅ Yes |
Email support | ✅ Yes |
Knowledge base | ✅ Yes |
How-to guides | ✅ Yes |
Phone support | ❌ No |
NordPass has an extensive selection of support channels, which include FAQs, set-up guides, and a general knowledge base. If your question is related to anything regarding NordPass apps or your account, you can be sure to find your answers there. As I navigated the help center, I found it intuitive, and the answers were easy to find. The how-to guides also include helpful images and tips to make finding a solution even easier.
Nevertheless, if you would rather speak to a real person, you can also get help via email or 24/7 live chat. I tested both of these options, and I personally preferred live chat because I was connected to an agent in seconds. When I submitted a ticket, I got a response via email in a couple of hours. In both cases, issues were resolved professionally and quickly – NordPass customer support is really one of the best.

NordPass video review

Is NordPass a good password manager
After thoroughly reviewing NordPass, I found it a great password manager for beginners and experienced users. It provides its customers with all the features a password manager needs, and it has robust security features, from top-notch encryption to security audits. Also, I was amused by how easy it was to manage the interface on all devices.
However, I was slightly disappointed by the autofill feature because it could be more responsive. Also, the lack of phone support may be a dealbreaker for some. Yet, NordPass offers excellent overall value.
