Cristiano Ronaldo’s Binance collab sparks crypto scam fears

World football star Cristiano Ronaldo is now the face of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, announcing a partnership to launch a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Cristiano Ronaldo and Binance have revealed an unusual collaboration that will bring a range of Ronaldo’s NFTs to the platform.

The “ForeverZone” is a space that Binance regards as “the digital home of Cristiano Ronaldo’s NFT collections, content, and community.”

Those who purchase CR7 NFTs could get the chance to meet Ronaldo, win merchandise, or score tickets to matches.

By purchasing any of the NFTs, investors get to see exclusive content featuring Ronaldo as well as owning “digital moments” in Ronaldo’s career, clubs, and footballing record.

Binance secured a multi-year partnership with the football star to reach his global fanbase.

This isn’t the first time the crypto exchange has collaborated with a celebrity. Previously, Binance signed the TikTok influencer Khaby Lame.

However, with new cryptocurrency collaborations come new risks, as this new development could prompt bad actors to exploit vulnerable fans.

Ronaldo’s fanbase spans many countries and ages. However, according to Ipsos Synthesio, a high percentage (roughly 54%) of the footballer's fanbase is between the ages of 13 and 24.

With this new collaboration, young people who may be inexperienced when it comes to crypto exchanges could be influenced into buying NFTs.

Moreover, young people could be more susceptible to scams as they may be unfamiliar with proper cryptocurrency practices and may not want to spend what little money they have on NFTs.

Don’t fall for NFT scams

Cybernews previously reported that Ronaldo was the most likely to be impersonated out of other famous sportspeople.

Findings by SeatPick and AI experts at AIPRM Ronaldo had his voice replicated over 5,500 times, making him the most popular sportsperson to deepfake.

Hackers may try to impersonate Ronaldo or Binance in order to sell fake NFTs. Bad actors may also create fake websites that pose as legitimate sellers.

When purchasing NFTs, you should always be aware of potential scams, so it’s best to buy these tokens from reputable sellers or directly from Binance.

Be wary of NFTs from third-party sellers, always check that you’re buying from the right domain, and be aware of fake NFT giveaway scams.
