After eating $6M art piece, crypto mogul plans 100,000 banana project

As promised, crypto mogul Justin Sun ate the art piece he acquired for $6.2 million – a banana taped to a wall – and is now working on a 100,000-banana donation project.

Sun ate the banana last Friday at a Hong Kong hotel in front of dozens of observers.

As reported by Cybernews, the art piece, ‘Comedian’, created by Maurizio Cattelan, was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on November 21st.

However, the story, and Sun's opportunity to further demonstrate his marketing powers, didn’t end with the banana reaching the mogul's stomach.

The founder of the Tron (TRX) blockchain, known for numerous costly publicity stunts, has now promised to buy 100,000 bananas from Shah Alam, a street fruit merchant in New York who sold the ‘Comedian’ banana to Cattelan.

The ultimate plan is to distribute the bananas to eaters for free.

"Mr. Alam’s contribution to this extraordinary artwork is indispensable, highlighting the boundless possibilities and value hidden in everyday life. I hope this initiative will bring his story to a broader audience and, one day, I look forward to visiting his fruit stand in person to express my gratitude again," Sun posted on X.

In a separate post this past weekend, he also confirmed that his team is already in touch with Alam and that the plan to distribute the bananas is now underway. No further details were provided.

Meanwhile, last week, Sun also invested $30 million into Donald Trump and his family-supported crypto project World Liberty Financial, helping it reach its fundraising goal. Soon after, Sun also became an advisor to this yet-to-be-launched platform.

In either case, all these developments seem to have failed to impress TRX investors, as the price of this native token of Sun's Tron blockchain, at the time of writing, is down 2% in a week.
