Stalker who called victim 176 times during cyberstalking spree pleads guilty

One cyberstalker made wild claims that his victim was dating a murderer, that she killed her ex-boyfriend, and that she planned to expose her baby to a rapist.

Michael Jameson Chand, 32, of Sacramento County, has pleaded guilty to the crime of cyberstalking.

Court documents detail that Chand “intentionally engaged in a course of conduct to harass or intimidate the victim.” The victim has been called Jane Doe in order to protect her identity.

According to the Department of Justice (DoJ), Chand had already committed crimes against Jane Doe, which made the experience all the more harrowing.

Prior to his guilty plea, Chand had been convicted in California for offenses against the victim and was sentenced to two years in jail. According to the DoJ, Chand obtained child sexual exploitation material from Jane Doe when she was just 15 years old.

When Chand was out on parole, he posted Jane Doe’s full name and claimed that she was dating a murderer. He then posted on Facebook, “Please everybody help me get her into a mental hospital, if you want her contact info let me know please,” the DoJ said.

Chand also called the victim 176 times and left her 63 voicemail messages, in which he insulted her, threatened her and her family.

Under various aliases and on different social media accounts, Chand contacted and harassed Jane Doe.

Chand revealed the woman’s real name on Facebook, her city and state of birth alongside photos from her social media account. He made false allegations stating that Jane Doe killed her ex boyfriend and that she planned to expose her baby to a “rapist.”

In another bizarre post, Chand wrote “Please help me find a way to get the poor kid away from her.”

Chand is expected to be sentenced in 2025 and could face a maximum statutory sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
