When influencers fight back on TikTok – Indy Clinton starts a new era of anti-troll warfare

Indy Clinton has hired a private investigator to expose online trolls in a viral campaign that blurs the line between digital snark and real-world consequences.

Viral Australian influencer Indy Clinton recently posted on her TikTok that she hired a private investigator to help shame her online trolls and expose them, in a stinging fight-back.

In a viral video, with over three million views, we can see Indy dancing to Whitney Houston's “I’m Every Woman,” holding a 64-page report from her investigation.

She also ran a few reels on Outspoken_the_podcast to expose that a lot of the trolls were actually mothers from Melbourne and that she knows which hospital they were born in.

Snark to surveillance

Private investigators might use IP tracing, metadata, or social graph analysis to help uncover the harassers.

Clinton also claims she knows some of these individuals' Australian Business Numbers (their version of Social Security).

In this stunning revelation, the influencer also expressed marvel at the fact that these mothers were bullies and, in turn, would most likely raise bullies for kids as well.

Many trolls don’t realize their online activities have real-world consequences. A Manychat survey from May 2025 highlighted that 75% of social media users believed their online actions didn’t matter in the real world.

With accountability catching up, this could lead to less trolling or push harassment into harder-to-trace channels.

As trolls often claim that it’s merely free speech, we asked Dr Pamela Walters, an MD and consultant psychiatrist at Eulas Clinics, her thoughts on the topic, and she explained that there is a clear distinction between free speech and targeted harassment:

“Unmasking trolls should be about drawing a line between legitimate discourse and abuse. Ideally, it promotes accountability and reminds individuals that their actions, even online, have real-world consequences,” shared Walters.

In a show of solidarity, other influencers publicly supported Clinton, some even asked for the PI’s contact information, showing that this might grow into a wider movement.

Perhaps platforms themselves could integrate troll-detection or verification tools to curb harassment before it escalates.
