Shoppers won’t receive furniture orders after ransomware attack

Basset Furniture, one of the oldest furniture manufacturers in the US, is stopping its manufacturing operations after a ransomware attack on its systems.

On July 10th, Bassett Furniture Industries detected “unauthorized occurrences” on its network systems, according to a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The company claims to have shut down part of its systems. The threat actor encrypted the company’s data files, which interfered with the operation of the company’s manufacturing facilities.

The company reassures that retail stores and its e-commerce platform are not affected by the breach, and customers are able to place orders and purchase available merchandise. However, it won’t be able to deliver pending orders.

The company has started an investigation and claims to be searching for solutions to restore its IT systems and reduce the disruption.

For now, the company claims that customer personal data was likely not compromised.

Headquartered in Virginia, Bassett Furniture is one of the oldest furniture manufacturers in the state. Bassett operates approximately 60 retail locations in the United States and Puerto Rico and licenses its retail brand to about 40 additional locations.
