Elon Musk is as close as ever to holding the world’s first title of a trillionaire – and the backlash has already started.
The Gen-Z pop star Billie Eilish took it to Instagram on Thursday to share infographics from the campaign group My Voice, My Choice, showing how Musk could spend his money.
The examples include ending world hunger by 2030, providing universal clean water for the planet for the next seven years, saving all critically endangered species, as well as rebuilding Gaza, the West Bank, Ukraine, and Syria.
Following the screenshots, Eilish posted on a black screen: “etc...f*cking pathetic p***y b**ch coward”, which was clearly aimed at Musk.

Eilish has been very vocal about her stance on the rich. When accepting the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards, she said: “Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you are a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but give your money away, shorties,” adding that “people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country.”
Several tech moguls were present at the event, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is worth an estimated $209 billion.
When introducing Eilish, late-night host Stephen Colbert said that she would be donating $11.5m from her most recent Hit Me Hard and Soft tour “to support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, client justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis.”
Eilish’s earlier comments were met both with praise and criticism, with some people noting that many billionaires support various causes – citing an example of Zuckerberg, who has donated approximately $5 billion to charity, according to Forbes.
Musk is not currently a trillionaire – according to Forbes estimates, as of Thursday, he was worth $465 billion. This still makes him the richest person in the world, but soon, his wealth could more than double.
The unprecedented deal granting Musk a pay package worth nearly $1tn received the approval of over 75% of shareholders. The deal was approved amidst concerns that Musk might leave the company if it didn’t go through, with the board claiming that his commitment to Tesla was "critical" to avoid significant value loss.
However, things are not quite as simple. Musk must meet a series of very challenging conditions in order to ever see that pay. They include bringing Tesla's overall market value to $8.5tn (currently $1.4tn), making up to $400bn in core profit, and delivering 20 million Tesla vehicles and one million robots over the next ten years.
In 2025, Musk became the first person to achieve a net worth of more than $500bn, and the chair of Tesla's board, Robyn Denholm, said that Musk was now "front and centre" at Tesla.
