GitHub suffers major outage, "OH MY GOD"

GitHub, the online development platform, is experiencing a major outage that’s affecting pull requests and other operations.

The development platform said that it’s “investigating reports of degraded availability for Issues and Pull Requests.”

‘Pull Requests’ are a way for developers to propose changes to a project. If pull requests are disabled, it might be difficult for users to track project changes, control project quality, and collaborate on different projects.

Similarly, with ‘Issues’ down, it may be difficult to track tasks, initiate bug fixes, and address other things like code quality in any GitHub project.

GitHub users have taken to DownDetector, where users can track live outages and express their frustrations. Almost 3,000 US users reported the GitHub outage.

One user simply said, “OH MY GOD!” Another said, “It’s up again but pretty slow,” revealing that users may have had trouble accessing the site and not just some of its features.

Over 2,000 users in the UK also flocked to DownDetector to report the issue.

At the time of writing, GitHub provided an update via its status page saying that “users may experience timeouts” when using various GitHub services.

The issue arose from a problem with its “caching infrastructure” which is recovering according to GitHub's status page.
