Google rolls out photo-to-video capability in Gemini

Google is now allowing its paying users to turn their photos into eight-second video clips with sound.

To use the feature, select ‘Videos’ from the tool menu and upload a photo. Then you can give any specific audio instructions and describe a scene, prompting Google’s video generator Veo 3 to spit out a short scene.

According to Google, you can fully unleash your creativity by animating everyday objects or bringing your drawings to life, adding movement to the surroundings.

When your video is complete, you can share it with friends and family with just one click.

To try the feature out, you must have Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra. It’s not currently available to users under 18 years old or users signed in to a work or school Google Account.

The new capability is also not available to users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.

For now, there are certain limits, including:

  • Limits for how many videos you can create. You’ll get a notification when you’re close to the limit, also telling you how many videos you have left.
  • Google AI Pro users who reach their video generation limit can upgrade to Google AI Ultra or wait for their limit to refresh.
  • Users with Google AI Ultra have higher limits and can generate more videos.

The same feature is available in Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking tool, where you can add speech to your clips when using Frames to Video. The availability of Flow and Google AI Ultra has been expanded to 76 more countries, offering the tool in 140+ countries around the world with a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan.

In June, Google introduced its Doppl app, which allows you to try any outfit on a digital, animated version of yourself.
