Musk on reported Trump donations: “I don’t prescribe to cult of personality”

Billionaire Elon Musk denied media reports that he has been donating $45 million a month to former President Donald Trump’s election campaign.

Tesla, SpaceX, and X owner Musk said that media reports of supposed donations to Donald Trump are “not true.”

“What’s been reported in the media is simply not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump,” Musk said in an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Musk was open about his commitment to donate $45 million per month to a newly formed super political action committee (PAC) founded by tech moguls earlier this year.

Super PACs are able to raise unlimited amounts of funds for an election campaign for so-called “independent expenditures,” which include day-to-day operations, ads, and other election prerequisites.

The so-called America PAC has attracted the attention of several well-known tech people, such as the Winklevoss twins, former PayPal executive Ken Howrey, Palantirs’ co-founder Joe Lonsdale, and others.

“I am making some donations to America PAC, but at a much lower level, and the key values of the PAC are supporting a meritocracy & individual freedom,” Musk said in a post on X.

However, during Peterson's interview, Musk said he isn’t part of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

“I don’t prescribe to a cult of personality,” Musk said.

Musk's public presence has indicated his leniency towards supporting Trump over the past several months, with his X posts touting Trump’s bravery after the assassination attempt at the same time, ridiculing President Joe Biden’s age and campaign.
