Reddit monitoring fix after issues impact thousands of US users, X also reported down

Thousands of Reddit and X social media app users in the US reported outages Thursday afternoon, with both sites appearing to slowly return to normal according to Downdetector.com.

Reports of problems using Reddit began pouring in at about 12:16 p.m. PDT, while users at X first submitted reports to the internet monitoring site less than ten minutes later.

After alerting users on its website and social media that it was investigating the issue, about an hour later, Reddit posted an update on its status X account that, “A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”

Still, some Reddit users on X responded that the fix had not worked for them.

“The result is its worse than ever. Can't get anything but an error when opening the app now, commented X user @FeralCaress.

“It’s not fixed at all! I can't even read messages or respond to them when I can read them,” another user named @Immortaldeagirl wrote.

Reddit users had reported the site showing an “ internal server error” with others complaining they could not log into “the site or iOS app.”

Downdetector shows that 70% of Reddit users were having problems with the app, 25% were reporting issues with the website itself, and 5% said they could not log into their accounts.

At its peak, about 35,000 users in the United States reported issues on Reddit and just over 18,000 on X, according to Downdetector. A combination of about 14,000 users in the UK also reported problems with the sites.

More than half of X users reported troubles with the app, while about 45% had problems with the website. Issues on both apps seemed to have been mostly resolved by 2:00 p.m. PDT.

On March 10th, the hacktivist group Dark Storm claimed responsibility for launching a massive distributed denial-of-service attack on X, which caused major issues for tens of thousands of users for most of the working day.

The pro-Palestinian hacker group announced the attack was in protest of X owner Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump’s “blatant fascism and lack of humanity.”

X has not commented on Thursday’s reported issues.
