Tesla Cybertruck combusts after crash leaving one person dead – media

A Tesla Cybertruck burst into flames after colliding with a culvert in the US. The incident is reportedly one of the first fatal Cybertruck crashes since the vehicle's release.

The incident occurred on August 5th, 2024, at 1:45 a.m., in the Baytown area in Texas. The Tesla Cybertruck left the roadway and collided with a culvert, causing the car to go up in flames. A culvert is a large cylindrical structure or tunnel which carries water under a road or railway.

State troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash after the driver died at the scene.

Local media reported that the driver couldn’t be identified due to the damage caused by the fire and the severity of their burns. The Cybertruck’s license plate number and vehicle identification number (VIN) were also unidentifiable due to the damage.

David Tracy, an automotive industry reporter, told KHOU 11 News – which first reported the incident – that this may be the first fatal incident involving a Tesla Cybertruck.

Tracy said that while electric vehicles (EVs) aren’t more likely to burst into flames than regular vehicles, they do combust differently. First responders will need to handle cases involving flaming electric vehicles separately from those involving conventional fuel vehicles.

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla, claims that the vehicles are essentially indestructible, but this seems to be far from the case.

One YouTube channel, WhistlinDiesel, tested the Tesla Cybertruck to see if everything Elon Musk has said about his futuristic vehicle is true.

He came across critical issues after putting the car through rigorous and what some people called unreasonable testing conditions.

Cybertrucks have been known to crash and not survive the accident, but never to this degree.

One incident was recorded by a TikTok user who filmed the aftermath of a Tesla Cybertruck crash after the white EV wrapped itself around a traffic light pole in the US.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed, but the same can’t be said for the EV that was almost completely destroyed.
