TorrentGalaxy’s mysterious downtime sparks speculation

TorrentGalaxy, one of the largest torrent sites, has mysteriously gone offline, leaving users wondering if it's a temporary glitch or a final shutdown.

The US Trade Representative has listed TorrentGalaxy among the most notorious pirate sites. The site has now been down for days, leaving users in the dark as operators remain silent.

First reported by TorrentFreak, the ongoing downtime has fueled speculation, with even the site's staff and administrators remaining uninformed. The timeline for its return remains uncertain.

The site plays a crucial role as a content supplier for other torrent platforms through its upload bots, which, interestingly, remain active despite the current downtime – unlike in previous outages.

A few weeks ago, TorrentGalaxy reportedly mentioned having difficulty paying its bills and asked users for help, resulting in hundreds of dollars being donated in bitcoin.

While some may link the current issues to financial struggles, there’s no evidence so far to support the claim.

New owners to blame?

The notorious torrent site has had a rough year with multiple outages. Last June, many users feared the site had shut down when it displayed the cryptic message, “4ever?” The site eventually returned without explanation, only to go offline again in September with another vague message.

TorrentGalaxy has begun displaying an image from the movie Logan across its website, accompanied by the cryptic message: “TG(X) Forever,” leaving users with more questions as no further details have been provided.

As speculation ran wild, rumors from supposed moderators about its demise spread, but these proved false when the site reappeared days later.

The outages occurred after new owners stepped in to take over the community-run torrent website. TorrentGalaxy’s founders confirmed the change of ownership to TorrentFreak, but no further details are known about the deal and the new operators.

In November 2024, a Dutch court approved a new blocking order against TorrentGalaxy despite objections from internet provider Odido, who argued that the anti-piracy group could have targeted the issue more directly. The court disagreed, stating the group had already done enough.
