Six influential women will board Blue Origin’s first-ever full female spaceflight. But why is Katy Perry going to space?
Blue Origin, founded by Amazon creator Jeff Bezos, will host its first full female spaceflight in which six women, including pop star Katy Perry, will take off into space.
The crew includes Perry, producer Kerianne Flynn, research scientist Amanda Nguyen, broadcast journalist Gayle King, author, journalist, and Jeff Bezos’ fiance Lauren Sánchez, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe.
Well, actually, the New Shepard crewed NS-31 will take off from a launch site in West Texas and will go past the Karman Line, the recognized boundary of outer space, which is about 62 miles or 100 kilometers above Earth.

The crew won’t be away for long, as Space.com says New Shepard missions last between 10 and 12 minutes.
However, they should be able to experience weightlessness and see the Earth against the vacuous backdrop of space.
Why is Katy Perry going to space?
But why was Perry chosen to hop aboard the NS-31 spaceflight?
According to a TikTok video she posted, the singer has had this dream for around 15 years.
Perry also said that she is “so honored to be around five other incredible and inspiring women as (they) become the first ever all-female space crew.”
In another video posted to Instagram, Perry said that she was personally invited on the voyage into space.
Perhaps Perry's eagerness for space travel was one reason she was chosen to board the spaceflight.

Or, was it Jeff Bezos finance Lauren Sanchez, who may have had a hand in choosing Perry to undertake the mission?
Sanchez is also on board the NS-31, and in interviews with Elle, all crew members say that they received a call from both Bezos and Sanchez when they were chosen to go on the voyage. Therefore, Perry’s personal connections may have contributed to the decision.
Perry told Elle that she was shocked and had to ask the universe to give her confirmation.
“I really felt very sure when they sent me the picture of the space pod because on the front of the pod is a feather, and that’s my mom’s nickname for me. And so I was like, Okay, I see it,” Perry told Elle.
