Clickbait no more: YouTube’s push for honest content

YouTube has announced that it will start cracking down on misleadingly titled content that has no or limited relevance to what the user thinks they're clicking on.

The process is well underway, reports TechCrunch, which is certainly reassuring, especially if you’re a regular subscriber or someone who pays for Premium.

Breaking news and current events take precedence, and the operation will begin in India. This is welcome news, especially when you consider there’s a glut of content that falls under the radar, even now, as the platform charges key subscribers.

And upon announcing this week's crackdown their words certainly sound impressive that they want to remove “egregious clickbait.”

Whether or not the action they take will match their words is still an open question, but at least they’ve started showing empathy for the user by stating they understand the feelings of angst and mistrust caused by being let down by a content creator.

Right now it feels a bit unresolved regarding how wide-reaching such a move will be, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out and is certainly a step in the right direction.
