NordVPN launches PriceMice, a free tool that helps you find cheaper hotel prices in other countries
The browser extension compares final checkout prices for the same room across locations, helping travelers find a better price before they book.
The all-in-one digital security solution NordVPN has launched PriceMice, a free browser extension that shows you what a hotel room costs when booked from different countries. Most travelers don’t realize that booking sites may show different prices based on your location, and PriceMice helps uncover savings you might otherwise miss.
The same room, on the same dates, can cost less depending on browsing location or the regional version of the same website. Finding out whether a different country displays a better price used to mean manually switching locations or website versions and re-running searches, with no guarantee of finding anything.
PriceMice does that work for you. Browse hotels as usual, click to compare prices next to a room, and it shows the final checkout prices from other countries, taxes included.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
- SO/ Bangkok (Thailand) — $1,409.19 from the US vs. $1,260 from the UAE, saving $149.19 for a 7-night stay.
- Theory Stay (Two-Bedroom Apartment) — £1,074 from the UK vs. £968 from India, saving £106 for a 6-night stay.
In our internal tests, roughly 1 in 4 hotels was at least $20 cheaper per stay when booked from another country. The largest single saving we recorded was over $500. It doesn't work every time. Savings depend on the country, demand, how the platform sets prices and other factors, so sometimes the price is just the price. The booking itself is between the user and the booking site. When a better price is available, a VPN can help you access it.

How it works
PriceMice is a free extension, available on the Chrome browser. Once installed, it works alongside your usual hotel browsing on Booking.com (with more platforms expected soon). When you're looking at a room, click to compare prices, and PriceMice automatically checks the listing from multiple locations to see what that same room costs when booked from elsewhere.
The tool focuses on the final checkout price, including taxes and fees. However, travel pricing is complex, and several factors can influence the final amount a traveler pays, for example:
- Local taxes: Some destinations only add property fees at checkout or charge them on arrival.
- Exchange rates: Prices from other countries are converted to the user's currency, meaning rates may shift based on current exchange fluctuations.
- Price testing: Booking platforms may run live tests, showing different prices to different visitor groups simultaneously.
- Loyalty programs: PriceMice checks prices without logging in, so individual loyalty discounts are not applied to the results.
Prices are AI-matched, and AI can make mistakes. Prices are based on location and can vary over time, affected by factors outside our control, such as demand and how each platform sets its prices.
