Adidas and Dior confirm breaches involving customer data

German sportswear brand Adidas and French luxury fashion brand Dior confirmed hacker attacks affecting customer data.

Adidas Korea started sending out breach notification emails to customers, informing their data was exposed in a security breach, Korean media outlet SNS News reported. According to the breach notification, attackers obtained information that customers submitted to the Adidas customer center in 2024 and previous years.

Reportedly, the leaked information includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and other personal details. The company said that no financial information was exposed during the attack.

Dior confirms data breach

Earlier this week, Dior fashion house confirmed that “an unauthorized external party accessed some of the data” of the company’s customers. The breach notification says Dior Fashion and Accessories customers were exposed.

Like Adidas, Dior stressed that no payment information, such as bank account or payment card info, was exposed during the attack.

While Dior doesn’t specify which parts of its business were impacted, Dior’s Korean branch has posted a message indicating a data breach. The French brand discovered unauthorized activity on May 7th.

“According to our investigation to date, the affected data includes your contact information, purchase data, and preference data that you shared with us. The database accessed did not contain any financial information, including bank details, IBANs, or credit card information,” reads the message on Dior Korea’s website.

“The reported access to customer data in China and Korea underscores how breaches can quickly transcend borders and impact individuals internationally,“

Hull said.

Losing personal information increases the risk of cyberattacks for individuals involved. Attackers can utilize the stolen information for identity theft and targeted phishing attacks.

For example, malicious actors could impersonate government agencies, demanding additional personal details or payments, or coaxing users into revealing more sensitive information.

Attacks impacting well known brands like Dior serves as a reminder to customers that that cyber threats are a persistent part of our digital reality, Matt Hull, global head of Threat Intelligence at cybersecurity consulting firm NCC Group, thinks.

“Global brands like Dior operate complex systems across multiple markets, which can make them attractive targets for threat actors. The reported access to customer data in China and Korea underscores how breaches can quickly transcend borders and impact individuals internationally,“ Hull said.
