BMW Financial Services has been caught up in a third-party breach that affected a small pool of people, but details are still vague.
BMW Financial Services was indirectly involved in a data breach affecting the third-party company AIS.
AIS, a Texas-based fintech firm, provided its monitoring and processing services and legal monitoring services to BMW Financial Services and its account holders during the breach.
The third-party noticed suspicious activity within its network and started an investigation with the help of forensic specialists.

Through the investigation, AIS learned that bad actors gained access to its systems and stole a limited amount of data.
The data stolen from AIS and indirectly BMW Financial Services is unclear, as the breach notification letter omits all other data elements except names.
However, we do know that the incident impacted a limited number of people, just over 1,950, and only two Maine residents were affected.
Hackers may have been inside AIS’s systems for two days, as the breach occurred on February 16th, 2025, and was discovered on February 18th, 2025.

The fintech firm explicitly said that this breach didn’t impact BMW Financial Services’ systems and databases.
AIS is providing affected individuals with 12 months of Equifax credit monitoring and identity theft prevention services.
