YouTubers who pre-ordered the T1 mobile phone from Trump Mobile, a network operator and smartphone brand of The Trump Organization, are finding that their data is leaking. “Everything short of credit card numbers,” said Stephen Findeisen, better known as Coffeezilla.
An unknown security researcher reportedly discovered a major vulnerability in Trump Mobile that exposed user data.
Popular YouTubers Coffeezilla and penguinz0 (Charles Christopher White Jr.), both customers who pre-ordered the T1 phone, confirmed that their data appeared in the leak.
“This person had my order information, my mailing address, they had other people’s information as well that they shared with me just to prove it was real,” Coffeezilla said on his secondary channel, voidzilla.
“I’m not a computer expert, but even I can understand the mechanics of it, meaning it’s very low-hanging fruit.”
The vulnerability allegedly exposed full names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and order details.
According to penguinz0, the researcher attempted to responsibly disclose the issue to the company, but received no response. Only then did the researcher go public to warn the customers.
“Coffeezilla and myself as well as this individual have reached out to Trump Mobile in every possible avenue we could find, to put this on their radar for them to fix it, because this is a huge issue. All of us have been met with radio silence,” penguinz0 added.
However, it appears that the flaw was patched soon after the videos went live. In a pinned comment on YouTube, Coffeezilla confirmed that the data is no longer leaking. However, the anonymous researcher warned that multiple other people had already replicated the exploit “fairly easily.” This raises concerns that the data may already be circulating in the wild.
The YouTubers also raised broader concerns about Trump Mobile's security, since the company offers cellular service and likely stores sensitive data, such as browsing history, call logs, and location data.
Inflated sales numbers?
Moneywise previously estimated that over half a million Americans made $100 deposits to get Trump’s gold phone, priced at $499. However, the leaked data suggests the actual number is a lot lower.
The YouTubers said the leaked data shows roughly 10,000 customers with unique IDs and around 30,000 total orders, or just 5% of the previous estimate.
Cybernews previously reported that, after a 9-month delay, Trump Mobile T1 is finally being shipped to some media outlets for review. It appears that the Trump Mobile T1 is based on the budget smartphone HTC U24 Pro from 2024.
