Apple urges updates as hackers target iPhones

Apple is urging billions of iPhone users to update immediately after confirming that hackers are already exploiting newly patched flaws in iOS 26.2.

Apple has released iOS 26.2, issuing an “update now” warning to over a billion iPhone users. According to reports, the two newly patched vulnerabilities are already being exploited in the wild.

The new update addresses a total of 26 security vulnerabilities across Apple’s mobile operating system, including critical issues – tracked as CVE-2025-43529 and CVE-2025-14174 – that could allow attackers to achieve arbitrary code execution or gain full control of your iPhone.

The CVE-2025-14174 exploit chain is already being used in real-world attacks. Apple says the attacks are highly targeted and sophisticated. However, it does not provide more detailed information.

“For our customers' protection, Apple doesn't disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available,” Apple said on its support page.

The two vulnerabilities are affecting WebKit, the browser engine behind Safari. iOS 26.2 updates also target a serious vulnerability in the iPhone kernel, tracked as CVE-2025-46285.

This vulnerability could allow a malicious app to gain root privileges. Reportedly, this would enable attackers to bypass app sandboxes, read messages and login codes, and hijack banking sessions.

Apple fixes vulnerabilities and improves features

Together with iOS 26.2, Apple released iOS 18.7.3 updates, fixing 22 vulnerabilities. The update also includes the same two WebKit vulnerabilities.

Apple stated that the attacks targeted versions of iOS prior to iOS 26, meaning devices still running iOS 18.7.2 may be vulnerable.
