Twitch streamer Joshua Khane says Microsoft permanently deleted his account after it was hacked, claiming the company confirmed he was the legitimate owner before taking action.
Khane says he lost 25 years of digital purchases, namely Xbox games, as well as personal files. He posted on his X account that baby photos of his son were also lost in the process.
“All because MICROSOFT couldn’t bring back a compromised account??” the post read, adding, “One of the biggest companies ever couldn't do that, so they just deleted that shit like it was nothing??”
Tacked onto the post is the reply email Microsoft sent, which explained that the suspension was "irreversible."
“If you used the account for Minecraft, we regret to inform you that the account cannot be recovered,”read the email.
The email didn't just say it couldn't be recovered – it said a new purchase would be required, which opens up the debate about who truly owns the game.
Microsoft's reasoning is that locking compromised accounts helps prevent future abuse, despite the influencer not being able to retrieve his material.
Microsoft DELETED my account AND OneDrive!!?? After ACKNOWLEDGING that I’m the owner of the account and that it was compromised???

While some commenters under Khane’s X post suggested he should have backed up his data, there were also words of sympathy.
“You would think Microsoft would have better security protocols than straight deletion,” offered one user, while another poster was in disbelief that Microsoft couldn’t simply freeze the account and look into the details of the case.
Khane replied by saying, “I sent them everything they asked for, screenshots of my transactions, password data changes, all my info.”
In June, Brazilian Xbox user João Nasser was awarded roughly $400 in moral damages by Microsoft after his account was also deleted following a hack.
The Brazilian court further ordered Microsoft to restore the hacked user's account, as the digital ownership debate around games, cloud storage, and purchased content was spotlighted.
