In preparation for Superbowl Sunday, the host City of New Orleans' Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness agency (NOHSEP) has rolled out a new public safety app designed to keep both residents and visitors safe during large-scale events.
The NOLA Ready Public Safety App – available now on the Apple App and Google Play stores – was designed to keep people informed and prepared, not only for large-scale gatherings and emergencies, but also for severe weather events, NOHSEP said in Wednesday’s announcement.
The release comes just over a month since a deranged driver drove his truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers at the entrance to the City’s infamous Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more.
As part of the new NOLA Ready Campaign, the app will provide "real-time updates on essential City service information," giving users the ability to make empowered decisions and take immediate action if necessary, the City said.
“New Orleans, stay ready!” the campaigns X account posted on Wednesday, just in time for the dozens of pre-Super Bowl 59 festivities taking place all around Lousiana's Crescent City.
“The NOLA Ready Public Safety App is here to keep you informed & safe during events like Super Bowl, Mardi Gras & more! Get real-time updates, report emergencies, and access safety resources instantly,” the campaign said.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community,” said NOHSEP Director Collin Arnold.
“With the app, we are enhancing our ability to communicate with residents instantly and directly, making it easier for New Orleans to stay prepared and safe during any emergency or large-scale event,” Arnold said.
Nola's public safety app features
Developed by Motorola Solutions using its custom-branded personal safety application RaveApp Armor, key features of the comprehensive app include:
- Incident reporting of emergencies and suspicious activity with just the push of a button using email, photo, or video.
- Access to live interactive maps with real-time location sharing, service updates and more.
- Offline preparedness tips for users, such as resources, checklists, and information on how to stay safe during various types of incidents.
- Unlimited push notifications and emergency calling capability.
“The NOLA Ready app gives community members an easy way to alert public safety officials to emergencies or suspicious activity, enabling quicker and more accurate responses for a safer community,” said Jehan Wickramasuriya, Senior VP of AI and Intelligence Platforms at Motorola Solutions.
With a resident population of over 364,000, it's estimated that more than 100,00 visitors will descend on the 'Big Easy' for the seven days of Super Bowl LIX festivities.
The plethora of events for big game attendees and visitors alike includes press conferences from players, coaches, performers, and top musical artists, as well as a four-day fan experience, the NFL Honors awards show, a celebrity flag football game, a pre-game concert, and the football game itself, according to the week-long schedule compiled by USA Today Sports, which kicked off on Monday.
The Super Bowl game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs takes place on Sunday, February 9th at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome.
The city has also launched a special 'Game Time NOLA Fan Access' website with information about traffic navigation, road closures, public transportation access, and rideshare services.
