SHOCK: Albania AI minister expects “83 babies”

Albania’s AI minister Diella is expecting 83 babies, a bold move to deploy digital assistants in parliament and rethink the future of government AI.

Albania's prime minister has sensationally announced that Diella, its new AI minister, is pregnant with 83 babies.

In a confusing and otherworldly dispatch at the Global Dialogue in Berlin, Edi Rama proclaimed that the offspring will “serve as an assistant for those who participate in parliamentary sessions, and will keep a record of everything that happens, and will advise members of parliament. These children will have the knowledge of their mother.”

This unorthodox analogy follows the September appointment of Diella as Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence.

Her name, Diella, means sun in Albanian. The visual design of her appearance, wearing a traditional Zadrima dress, is to boost authenticity, despite objections from opposition MPs.

Albania has become a global test case for integrating AI into government bureaucracy, and Edi Rama's unusual analogy suggests that the Albanian government is ready to integrate AI agents in larger quantities.

Each digital newborn is expected to offer counterpoints and summarize parliamentary discussion. Diella already demonstrated competent eloquence when she spoke to the Albanian parliament on September 18th.

The constitution speaks of institutions at the people's service. It doesn't speak of chromosomes, of flesh or blood.

Still, the theatrical nature of the announcement is bold, and it could strangle a politician's autonomy with AI’s grip.

When watching the video on X, it becomes apparent how laissez-faire Rama is as he speaks to the presenter in Berlin.

Rama speculates that government ministers are at risk that they might go for a coffee and forget to come back to work, and that the kids would be able to brief them on what they’d missed.

One X user was able to cut through the mustard, saying, “I don't care about the 'pregnant,' but having an AI to 'suggest' how MPs should act is pure insanity.”
