There’s a tense clip between a husband and wife doing the rounds in China and beyond as they make a seemingly routine trip in their BYD car.
The video made waves in China first, before finding its way onto Instagram and racking up nearly 40,000 likes, along with punchy comments.
The wife launches into her suspicions by asking, “Hello Xiaofang, did my husband bring any other women in the car when I was away?” perhaps trying to catch him unawares as he continues driving.
What follows is a deafening silence, as the car's AI system computes the request and responds with “I can’t know directly if your husband brought any other woman to Fangchengbao 8.”

Viewers will gauge different vibes from this moment. At that split moment, it felt like the AI GPS was doing its job, as there were no giveaways, it might be privacy-locked, and it mentioned the specific street address.
But then the twist comes, as the AI goes on an extraordinary monologue. Firstly, Xiaofang recommends looking into sensitive location history – something he’ll need to explain if he’s racked up more kilometers than necessary, or if he's been in places he shouldn’t be.
The cleanliness of the car is next under scrutiny. The AI observes that there’s bird droppings on the windscreen, and that if he suddenly starts worrying about cleaning sprays, then perhaps he’s hiding something (as well as if he’s wearing lots of deodorant, among other signs).
Still, the spiel rounds off more compassionately, as Xiaofeng advises to find a good time to talk to her husband, if hard evidence is scarce.
The husband is captured laughing in the video, although whether this is in jest or due to a nervous disposition is unclear.
Commenters had various takes on the illuminating clip, with one Instagrammer weighing in with “dude is cooked” and another with “BYD is a girl’s girl.”
It’s not the first time that AI has acted as an aide in ratting out unfaithful partners. In June last year, in Greece, Chat GPT helped a wife of 12 years discover evidence in a coffee cup that her husband had been having an affair.
