How trustworthy are US AI companies?
Cybernews has evaluated the trustworthiness of 278 US AI companies.

- The most trustworthy AI companies in the US are Google (Gemini), Krisp, Fireflies.ai, Adobe, and Writesonic.
- Of the four pillars assessed, security received the lowest score (39), while transparency ranked the highest (90).
- 61% of US AI companies do not clearly disclose whether they use user data to train their AI models, while 66% of US AI companies do not clearly disclose how long they retain user data.
Cybernews has launched the AI Trustworthiness Ranking, a new project assessing 500 AI companies globally based on publicly available information related to security, data privacy, organizational transparency, and public perception. 278 of the analyzed companies are from the US. The ranking covers 21 AI categories, ranging from AI assistants and productivity tools to coding, music, and creative platforms.
US AI companies score slightly above the global average: across all 500 companies analyzed globally, the average Trustworthiness score is 65 out of 100, compared with 67 out of 100 among US companies.
“With so many AI tools to choose from, it’s not always easy to know which companies you can trust. The ranking checks how the companies behind the leading AI tools handle user data, security, and transparency, helping users understand which companies actually deserve their trust,” says Voldemaras Kadys, member of the AI Trustworthiness Ranking Advisory Board and Head of Security and Platform Engineering at Mediatech, the digital publishing house behind Cybernews.
Google and Krisp top the US AI Trustworthiness Ranking
Google (Gemini) and Voice AI company Krisp received the highest Trustworthiness scores among US AI companies, both scoring 97 out of 100. They were followed by Fireflies.ai (a notetaker app) and Adobe – these four companies took the top positions in the global ranking as well. Writesonic (an AI content platform) came in fifth in the US, while globally, the company took 6th place.
Office & Productivity was the highest-performing AI category in the US, with an average Trustworthiness score of 83 out of 100. Music & Audio ranked lowest, averaging 50 out of 100.
Security measures scored the lowest, transparency scored the highest
Of the four pillars assessed, security received the lowest average score among US AI companies at 39 out of 100. The security pillar checks whether a company has a dedicated security or trust page, bug bounty program, and security certifications.
Organizational transparency was the strongest-performing pillar, with an average score of 90 out of 100. Here, Cybernews analyzed whether companies disclose their legal entity, physical address, and a working contact channel.
Data privacy received an average score of 75 out of 100, while public perception, based on company reviews on Trustpilot and G2, averaged 70.
61% of US AI companies don't clearly disclose whether they train AI on user data
For the Data Privacy pillar, Cybernews analyzed companies' privacy policies to assess how clearly they explain how they collect, share, use, and retain user data.
The analysis found that 61% of US AI companies do not clearly disclose whether they use user data to train their AI models. Of these, 39% do not address AI training on user data in their privacy policies at all, while 22% provide only vague information.
Data retention disclosures showed a similar pattern. 66% of US AI companies do not clearly disclose how long they retain user data. 9% do not mention retention or deletion at all, while 57% provide only vague information without specifying precise retention periods.
“People use AI tools for everything these days, and they give those tools access to their most sensitive data. That’s why it’s so important for users to clearly understand what is done with their data. People shouldn’t have to interpret vague language or struggle to understand how their data is being used,” says V. Kadys.
