Infosys announces “strategic collaboration” with Anthropic in new AI push

Indian information technology giant Infosys and American company Anthropic, which is behind the Claude family of chatbots, will work together to build artificial intelligence (AI) agents for businesses.

Infosys said in a statement that its “strategic collaboration” with Anthropic will include developing advanced AI solutions for companies across various sectors.

The partnership will first start in the telecommunications sector and then expand to financial services, manufacturing, and software development.

Infosys said that Anthropic’s Claude models would be integrated with its Topaz AI offerings to help businesses automate complex workflows and accelerate software delivery.

The companies will develop custom AI agents for businesses that Infosys said will be able to handle multi-step tasks independently, such as processing claims, generating and testing code, and managing compliance reviews.

“There's a big gap between an AI model that works in a demo and one that works in a regulated industry – and if you want to close that gap, you need domain expertise,” Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said, adding that Infosys has “exactly that kind of expertise.”

Infosys employs over 330,000 people with clients in 63 countries. The company’s shares rose almost 3% following the announcement of the tie-up with Anthropic. This follows massive selloffs in Indian IT stocks driven by fears of AI disruption, which saw the sector fall 17% this month.

Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said, “AI is not just transforming business – it is redefining the way industries operate and innovate.”

“Our collaboration with Anthropic marks a strategic leap toward advancing enterprise AI, enabling organizations to unlock value and become more intelligent, resilient, and responsible,” he said.

Separately, Infosys said on Tuesday (February 17th) that AI services accounted for 5.5% of its total revenue in December, with Parekh noting it was “growing at a robust pace.”

Anthropic’s Claude is considered the world leader for many business applications and is currently the only AI model available in the US military’s classified systems, though the company is at loggerheads with the Pentagon on how its AI should be used.

While Pentagon officials reportedly praised Claude’s capabilities, users have increasingly questioned whether Anthropic’s model, as well as those from other companies, really live up to the hype.
