Mistral’s chatbot Le Chat turns into an AI agent called Vibe

Mistral AI has rebranded its chatbot, Le Chat, as Vibe, an AI agent that codes and performs day-to-day tasks.
- French AI giant Mistral has rebranded its chatbot, Le Chat, as a full-fledged AI agent, Vibe.
- The agent’s Work Mode, available on the web and mobile, allows it to connect to Google Workspace, Outlook, and Slack.
- Vibe’s Code Mode connects to GitHub and delivers the code all the way through to a pull request.
French AI giant Mistral says Vibe operates as a single agent under a single license and can handle the inbox and calendar, conduct research, code, and perform recurring everyday tasks.
The rebranding introduces Work Mode, available on the web and mobile, which connects the agent to Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack, and other custom connectors or libraries.
“It maps out a plan and gets your sign-off before it starts, then works across your connectors to carry the task through,” the press release says.
In addition, Vibe’s Code Mode, a new coding surface in the web app, allows connecting to GitHub, managing users’ projects, starting sessions, and seeing them through to a pull request.
Mistral says the agent runs in an isolated sandbox inside a session, allowing the user to manage sensitive actions and inspect diffs as the agent is writing code.
Rebranding also releases a new plugin that brings the Vibe coding agent into VS Code, Microsoft’s code editor. This enables Vibe to work across the whole project in a side panel that reads, edits, and executes commands beside the user's files.
While Vibe is available at no cost for a limited use, its Pro tier, which performs complex tasks, deeper reasoning, and all-day coding, costs $14.99/month.
Vibe is strengthening its position as a coding agent amid intense competition from tools from leading US AI labs, such as Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.
Mistral is among the leading advocates of European tech sovereignty, with its CEO, Arthur Mensch, recently warning that Europe has 2 years to build its AI infrastructure before it becomes the US’s “vassal state.”
Mensch recently told CNBC that the company is exploring designing its own chips. As of now, Mistral, valued at nearly €12 billion (over $13.9 billion), invests in building data centers with Nvidia chips.
