Prada has teamed up with animator and Disney alum John Pomeroy to bring human creativity back into the whimsical holiday season.
Pomeroy, known for his work on Disney animated classics like Winnie the Pooh and modern animations like The Simpsons Movie, illustrates the wonders of winter in his anachronistic style, dropping the viewer back in time.
Prada describes the hand-drawn illustrations as “romantic,” and the veteran cartoonist from the golden era of animation mastered his craft with pencil and paper.
“Old school analog drawing with pencil and paper,” Pomeroy said.
The campaign draws inspiration from “the human core of storytelling,” which lies “at the heart of the holiday season,” said Prada.
Pomeroy brought together a group of people who previously worked together in the industry to bring “Draw Prada” to life, with the goal of showcasing traditional hand-drawn animations.
Prada also asked the next generation of Hollywood actors, including Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, Chen Haoyu, Luther Ford, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Maya Hawke, to join the campaign celebrating craft and process.
The campaign showcases stories that evoke comfort and nostalgia in a way that is authentic to “the tales we tell,” suggested Prada.
“They are expressions of human feeling, experience, and emotional engagement…the campaign fuses evocative photography with illustrated environments, entirely executed by hand.”
AI Christmas ads never worked
AI content, commonly referred to as AI slop, has become prolific and extremely convincing.
Models capable of generating images (most AI models) do so well that many of us struggle to distinguish man-made content from AI-generated content, leaving us feeling foolish or, to some extent, betrayed.
Despite user grievances, major companies like Coca-Cola and McDonald’s created advertisements using AI.
Last year, Coca-Cola released another AI Christmas ad in spite of the negative feedback it received from its first uncanny AI ad in 2024.
McDonald’s followed suit, releasing its AI Christmas ad, which was trashed by netizens.
