To serve the more than 34 million people who tune in to listen to podcasts every week, Spotify is expanding its Prompted Playlist feature to include English podcasts as well.
Late last year, the music streaming service introduced a new feature called Prompted Playlist. It enables music lovers to create their own playlist with the power of artificial intelligence (AI).
Spotify’s goal was to help listeners steer its algorithm by creating playlists based on their listening history and real-time signals on Spotify, including trends and charts, and help them discover new music.
In January 2026, the new AI playlist creation tool was launched in beta to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada. In February, the feature was also introduced to fans with a Premium subscription in Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.
According to Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial, podcast listeners are also hooked on the Prompted Playlist feature.
“Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen. Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal. For creators, it unlocks powerful new opportunities for discovery, bringing both back catalog and new episodes to audiences who are actively signaling what they want to hear,” Hale says.
Some users may see Prompted Playlists on their home screen, which are created by Spotify’s experts. They’ve designed a mix of prompts to line up a list of podcasts listeners might find interesting. These playlists can easily be customized to suit their needs.
Podcast enthusiasts can also tap the “Create” button and select “Prompted Playlist” to get started. Users fill out a prompt, describing the topics they want to listen to.
For example, a podcast playlist that covers cybercrime-related topics, such as recent data breaches and cyberattacks, expert interviews on cybersecurity, and the latest developments regarding Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), just to name a few.
Next, users can select a schedule for updating playlists (daily or weekly) or not updating them. When a particular episode is added to a user’s playlist, it will include a short note explaining why it was included in the playlist to help understand the connection.
Podcast listeners are free to edit their prompt at any time. For the time being, Prompted Playlist will only select podcasts that are spoken in English.
Spotify says that some aspects of the Prompted Playlist feature for podcasts may change. “Usage limits are in place, and these may also change as we test and learn from listener feedback. Any scheduled updates to your Prompted Playlists will also be subject to these usage limits,” the music streaming service explains.
