TikTok gives its users more control over the AI-generated content they see

TikTok has introduced a new setting that enables users to control the amount of AI-generated content (AIGC) they see on their timeline. In addition, the video platform is working on more advanced labeling technology for AI-generated content.

The new feature can be found in TikTok’s Manage Topics tool, which lets users choose what they see on their feed.

“Manage Topics already enables people to adjust how often they see content related to over 10 categories like Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks. Like those controls, the AIGC setting is intended to help people tailor the diverse range of content in their feed, rather than removing or replacing content in feeds entirely,” TikTok explained in a blog post.

According to TikTok, it’s a new way to help users personalize the content on their timeline and to discover more videos and channels they like. People who love AIGC can see more of it, while users who’d rather see less can dial it down.

TikTok will be rolling out the new setting “in the coming weeks.” Users can access it by going into Settings > Content Preferences > Manage Topics and moving the slider for different topics.

Furthermore, TikTok announced that it’s testing a new way of marking AI-generated content called “Invisible Watermarking.”

Users who upload realistic-looking AIGC are required to label their content as such. For this purpose, TikTok uses a cross-industry technology called Content Credentials from C2PA. This allows content creators to embed metadata into their content and let viewers know when a video is AI-generated.

However, these labels can easily be removed when content is reuploaded or edited elsewhere. According to TikTok, “Invisible Watermarking adds another layer of safeguards with a robust technological watermark,” making it harder for others to remove.

Invisible Watermarking will be added to AIGC made with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro “over the coming weeks.”
