Streaming: does Speedify work with video services?
If you’re looking for a VPN to unblock geo-restricted content on major streaming sites, unfortunately, Speedify is not the service for you. We tested it out and were unable to unblock the likes of Hulu, Netflix, and BBC iPlayer. However, it had no issues with YouTube.
Also, if you’re already connected to the streaming sites you want to watch, you can use Speedify without jeopardizing that connection, thanks to the Bypass feature.
This allows you to select apps to run without the VPN connection – so its inability to unblock sites won’t get in the way of you watching them in the first place.
As for video quality, we were impressed by how well this provider maintained low latency and high framerate during video calls and YouTube videos – it has no issues there whatsoever.
In fact, Speedify was also excellent when we used it to stream on Twitch. It's a solid all-around option for broadcasting. As a matter of fact, the channel bonding feature turns Speedify into a top choice for anyone streaming their own video.
Platform | Does it work? |
Netflix | ❌ No |
Amazon Prime Vide | ❌ No |
BBC iPlayer | ❌ No |
Hulu | ❌ No |
YouTube | ✅ Yes |
HBO Max | ❌ No |
Speed: is Speedify…fast?
- Baseline – 1ms, 294.62 Mbps download speed, 300.29 Mbps upload speed
Location | Download | Upload |
US California | 22.94 | 12.01 |
UK London | 239.42 | 148.13 |
Canada | 219.98 | 151.83 |
Japan | 7.29 | 11.85 |
Germany | 230.74 | 254.07 |
Speedify delivers good connection speeds, although very remote connections can be a bit sluggish. With that said, we got great speeds in Canada, which is an ocean apart from us, so good speeds on a faraway server are not out of the question.
A lot about speed comes down to the tunneling protocol, and Speedify has an unexpected solution here. The protocols available for use are OpenVPN UDP, OpenVPN TCP, OpenVPN TCP Multiple, and HTTPS. It’s rare to see multiple TCP sockets used to improve connection speeds. Speedify even says that TCP is its fastest protocol and HTTPS is the slowest, which is pretty much the opposite of what you’ll find on other VPNs!
So if Speedify is mainly a TCP-based VPN, it makes sense that your connection speeds will falter with servers that are further away. TCP performance is well known to suffer over longer distances. With that said, the connections are bound to be more stable and reliable.
Using channel bonding, the results are going to be even more solid, especially when using nearby VPN servers. As a matter of fact, you can use this feature to improve your connection if your wifi or mobile internet (or both) is unstable.
That said, VPN speeds come down to more factors than just tunneling protocols - such as current network connections, location - and can be different for everyone. But for us overall, Speedify wasn’t all that fast.
Security features: is Speedify safe?
Speedify uses either AES-128-GCM or ChaCha20 encryption, depending on the device you’re using. ChaCha20 is the more secure option. Speedify also states that it uses TLS 1.2 (with HTTPS) – don't rely on this if you need the VPN for something sensitive.
There’s a selection of tunneling protocols available, including:
- OpenVPN UDP/TCP
- OpenVPN Multi Socket TCP
- HTTPS
When it comes to encryption, Speedify ticks all the right boxes.
Now, there is one concern, regarding the VPN's location. Speedify is based in Philadephia, USA. This is not a great location for VPN privacy. If your online activities include anything the US government may frown upon, perhaps this isn't the best choice of VPN.
That being said, Speedify doesn't log your online activities and has some good security features such as a kill switch and IP and DNS leak protection. There have also been no data leaks or cases of Speedify giving away information – for many people, this will be more than enough to trust this provider.
Speedify features
Speedify’s features include:
- Channel bonding. Speedify lets you use all of your existing online connections to deliver the best possible performance. This is especially useful for mobile users, who can combine cellular and Wi-Fi connections into one, and gamers, who can get the best possible latency.
- Live broadcasting. If you've ever used a VPN to broadcast your own video content, you'll know – it's not always the best experience. But it's exactly where Speedify shines, offering consistent high-quality video performance.
- Speed test. A good way of finding the fastest server that’s closest to your location.
- Bonding mode. This feature optimizes your connection depending on what you’re using the VPN for. It’s split into Streaming Mode for streaming, Speed Mode for performance, and Redundant Mode for reliability.
- Bypass. A useful feature, Bypass can be switched on if you find that certain services don’t let you access them if you’re using a VPN. You can use it on streaming sites and Android services like Android Auto, VoLTE, and Visual Voicemail.
You can also choose your DNS service provider, and there are security features such as IP and DNS leak protection and an internet killswitch to protect your anonymity.

You’ll also get at least five simultaneous connections with all plans, so you can spread the VPN across your devices.
All plans, except for the Teams plans, come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try out Speedify, and claim a hassle-free refund if you’re not happy with the service.
Speedify apps
Speedify has an app for all major platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
Apps are simple to use and intuitive across the board. They’re consistent on all platforms too, so you won’t see any jarring changes when you switch devices.
The Linux app is especially flexible. It gives you multiple ways of installing the app, and you even get a customizable UI, which you can enable or disable depending on how you want to use it. It even allows to share the bonded online connection via Wi-Fi or Ethernet to other devices.
Speedify doesn’t offer browser extensions or apps for Android TV and the Amazon Firestick. But this isn’t an issue when it comes to the latter, as the VPN is not suited for unblocking streaming sites anyway.
Speedify customer support
Speedify has a great customer support network to help you out with problems and queries. As well as a reliable 24/7 live chat, you can get in touch via email.
There’s also an extensive knowledge base where you can find set-up instructions, step-by-step guides, detailed tutorials, and even links for third-party guides.
With this much help at hand, you should always be able to get the assistance and information you need.
Speedify review – conclusion
Speedify is a solid way to use all of your available connections at once to build one fast and reliable option. It's a great pick for general web browsing and business use – we especially loved how it figured out what we were doing online and automatically adjusted the settings to optimize our experience.
Speedify is good for surfing online, work meetings, video chats, and online conference calls. The customer support is also great, matching or even exceeding the VPN market’s biggest names. And for a VPN standpoint, it still had all the key security features locked and loaded.
There are some issues: namely, streaming options will be very limited and the VPN's American location can raise an eyebrow or two. But for simple day-to-day tasks and excellent performance, Speedify is there with the best of VPNs out there.
